On March 28 of this year, the publishing house La Repubblica, as well as the magazine specializing in church topics of the Catholic Church and the Vatican, Rorate Caeli, published a rather daring interview of the pontiff with his friend, atheist Eugenio Scalfari (Eugene Scalfari), an interview that the foreign press has already called scandalous. The fact is that in it Pope Francis declared that no hell exists.

The interview is even titled very characteristic of the advertisement of such a loud statement "Pope: it is a great honor for me to be a revolutionary!" Here, almost literally (slightly abbreviated), is the passage in the interview in which the pontiff said about hell and the immortality of souls:

Eugene Skalfari:

Pope Francis:

If the soul of the sinner repents, then it will certainly receive forgiveness from the Almighty, who is infinitely merciful, which means that the soul forgiven by God will also live forever. But souls unrepentant of their sins cannot be forgiven, and therefore they will simply disappear, since there is no hell.

The current pontiff, of course, is reputed to be a great original and is distinguished by rather bold views, but Catholics did not expect such a revolutionary statement from their Pope, and therefore from the Vatican as a whole.

By the way, we note that the concept of hell and heaven does not exist in all religions, many spiritual teachings refute the eternal torment of the soul in the subtle world after death, even if a person sinned in this life, as they say, in full. In this case, the punishment in the form of reincarnation (Hinduism, Buddhism) seems more convincing, that is, an instrument for the rebirth of souls, due to which in the next incarnation a person receives such a fate that he deserved in a past life. This seems to be a much wiser divine instrument than the mythical heaven and hell of Christian teachings, with which the Catholic Church has been frightening its parishioners for 2 thousand years. Is it possible that her hierarchs have finally begun to understand the naivety and even the unjustified cruelty of such intimidation of people?..
