Nine out of 10 people on the planet breathe poor quality air. An environmental problem causes 7 million deaths annually. Now you can see how the silent and invisible killer works by visualizing the pollution of the Earth in real time.
The AirVision Ers project shows how man-made greenhouse gas emissions affect the health of the planet and our own well-being. This is the first map that feeds air pollution information online onto a 3D model of the globe. The ball can be rotated, brought closer and removed from individual areas. The map was compiled using air pollution recorders, satellite data and stations around the world.
Multi-colored spots on the map indicate the concentration of PM2.5 particles that enter the lungs. Red areas are heavy air pollution. Green areas are weak.
India and China appear on the map as huge red spots. The most polluted cities in the United States are New York and Washington. The largest cities in the UK - London, Birmingham and Manchester - also suffer from poor air quality.
Surprisingly, according to the map, intense pollution is typical for Central and North Africa. The creators of AirVision Ert attribute the anomaly to huge jets of sand and dust that the wind from the Sahara brings. Dust and sandstorms deceived the satellites, the images of which were used to create the map.
In the future, scientists plan to install air quality sensors in as many countries as possible around the world.

What is the mystery of the Piri Reis map?
We are talking about the geographical maps of the world, created in 1513. They were drawn by the Turkish admiral Piri Reis. The maps were found in 1929, have been studied a lot since then, and they raise more questions than answers. And it makes you rethink history - is it true what we know about the discovery of America and Antarctica? Most likely, the Europeans knew much more about the southern and western parts of the Earth than modern science claims
Fly in the ointment in the Vatican museums: photo ban and dirty statues in spite of $ 90 million in profits
While visiting the Vatican museums, which are really worthy and interesting, I noticed several negative points, some of which even took me by surprise. Somehow I didn't expect this, at least from the Vatican. And in the famous Sistine Chapel, it was not at all very comfortable for me to be, even a little unpleasant. But the frescoes of the legendary Michelangelo are not to blame. In general, a significant fly in the ointment turned out to be in a barrel of honey called the Vatican. Let's talk about this
