In fact, modern scientists know much more about telegony than it seems. However, they use a completely different term - "non-Mendelian inheritance".

It has only recently become possible to study this phenomenon.

And only in connection with the development of molecular methods.

It is generally accepted that intercourse is a way of getting sperm to (and inside) the egg. It turned out to fertilize - well, it didn't work out - it means that there was nothing.

However, this model is greatly simplified. Sperm, firstly, contains much more spermatozoa than is needed for fertilization, and secondly, it consists of almost 70% of semen. Sperm cells, like any cells in our body, release fragments of their DNA into the environment - the so-called extracellular DNA.

Unlike ordinary DNA, which is found in the nucleus and mitochondria, extracellular DNA, as the name suggests, is found outside of cells, in tissues. Another difference: Genomic DNA consists of long strands of chromosomes, while extracellular DNA is a set of small sequences, sometimes a million times shorter than a chromosome.

In many ways, for science, extracellular DNA is a huge mystery, but there is already evidence that animal and human cells can absorb such DNA from blood. In some cases, these molecules reach the cell nucleus, penetrate and integrate into the cell's own genome.
