In 1639, the five-year-old Tsarevich Ivan Mikhailovich died of illness, followed by the newborn heir Vasily Mikhailovich. Few doubted that the chain of deaths caused the damage that the Zamoskvoretsk witches had sent. As a result of cruel torture, Nastasya and her friend Ulyana died in prison. Since ancient times, burning has been used as a punishment for witches and sorcerers. In ancient Russia, the wise men were considered evil wizards. They were mostly burned - both for sorcery and for magic. This type of execution was especially popular in Novgorod. For "seduction" of the people and rejection of the Christian faith, by order of Prince Gleb, the Novgorodians burned the sorcerer in 1071, and in 1227 they burned four wise men, although the boyars wanted to prevent this.

When a plague epidemic began in Pskov in 1411, 12 women were burned to death on charges of spreading the disease. In 1446, Prince Ivan Mozhaisky publicly burned together with the wife of the boyar Andrei Dmitrievich - for magic.

So it was lucky for a resident of the city of Onega, Ekaterina Vishnyakova, that her mother gave birth, in the 21st century, the enlightened century.

By the way, before the adoption of Christianity by Russia, there were no executions of witches in its expanses, because the meaning of the word witch was among the ancient Slavs of a different kind than the present.

They understood it as a woman, wise with life experience, as a rule, a healer grandmother or the eldest woman in the family. It meant "knowing mother" who knows the recipes of what we now call "herbal medicine", who used ancient conspiracies, who knows the tradition of their ancestors and is truly the holder of the family hearth.

Do you know the name of the girl who entered the path of keeping the hearth? Right! The court cases of Russia related to witchcraft are full of cases when people suspected of witchcraft were acquitted. They were captured and brutally tortured. Of course, everyone recognized themselves as witches. One of the suspects even said that she entered into relations with the devil and received from him some worms, which she let in the direction of the victims.

The judges expressed doubts and demanded that the witch's worms be presented. Poor women got them somewhere, the court sent material evidence to the Senate, where pundits recognized in them … the larvae of common flies. The Senate excommunicated the judges from their posts for incompetence, ordered the girls-simulators to be flogged with rods and ordered not to believe such slander in the future.

The end of the era of litigation related to witchcraft is the significant, in fact, case of a woman who, as a witch, flew out of the chimney of her own house on a broomstick, which was witnessed by thirty (!)
