Starting a conversation in text form:
Artyom Voitenkov: Valentin Yuryevich, this month marks one hundred and fifty years since the birth of General Nechvolodov. To be honest, I myself did not know about him before. I found out only from your words when we were talking. You said that he was, it turns out, not only was he a general, but also an economist.
Valentin Katasonov: Yes, we once talked about gold with you, and I mentioned General Nechvolodov in this connection, yes.
Artyom Voitenkov: And since it is now his anniversary, a century and a half, it makes sense to talk more about him. Since you know about it, please tell us in more detail about it. Maybe a biography, a life path. What exactly did he do.
Valentin Katasonov: Of course, as an economist, first of all, I draw attention to the side of his activity, which is associated with his economic work. Of course, he is an interesting person in himself, and of course, a very all-round personality. Maybe others know in part who General Nechvolodov is, because at the present time, probably, the tenth reprint of his four-volume book, which is called "The Legend of the Russian Land", is already being published. This is one of the more fundamental studies of Russian history, before the accession to the royal throne of the Romanovs, that is, until 1613, from ancient times.
So, historians probably know who Alexander Dmitrievich Nechvolodov is. Probably, the military also know who Lieutenant General Nechvolodov is, because he is a participant in the First World War. By the way, he is also a participant in the Russo-Japanese War. He is a member of the white movement. He also had work in military affairs. So, the personality is such a versatile, interesting person. And if we talk about the economic component of his activities, then this is, of course, the book "From ruin to prosperity." It is a small book, a little over a hundred pages. It was published in St. Petersburg in 1906. I made a lot of noise then. The next year, in 1907, his second economic work appeared. Also about the same format, called "Russian money".
Once in exile, Alexander Dmitrievich continued to work in many areas. The key directions of his creative thought were such areas as international finance, Freemasonry, the protocols of the Elders of Zion, and everything that is today called conspiracy theories. But this is not a conspiracy theory that is born in the mind of some writer.
Alexander Dmitrievich Nechvolodov began his military service as a military counterintelligence officer. And when he was still a warrant officer, he only took his first steps on the military path, then he dealt with such a very specific issue. This is the end of the nineteenth century. This is a matter of illegal circulation of weapons. At this time, revolutionaries, bombers, terrorists appeared. We know from textbooks that every year thousands of people, the best people, died from bombs and firearms of these terrorists, and naturally, it was necessary to find out where these bandits got their weapons from. And he was engaged in identifying agents in military units. It was the theft of weapons from arsenals. Not only firearms, but also grenades, and some components for the production of various explosive devices.
Then he went to a higher level. He became involved in the study of the flow of weapons from abroad. A lot of weapons came from abroad. Especially from Finland, from Sweden. And then he already began to deal not only with weapons, but also with sources of funding. And here, unexpectedly, he entered the level of individual banks. And gradually his interest developed, and he began to deal with issues of international finance, and he saw a direct connection between revolutionary and terrorist activities in Russia, and the activities of world bankers …
