The structure, towering over the lush greenery of the central part of Java, evokes ambiguous emotions. The casual traveler will not immediately guess about the functional purpose of the building, but he will certainly marvel at its unusualness. From the side it seems that this hen is sitting in the grass: a bird's head, an open beak, a tail that strangely resembles a peacock.

History of origin

The idea of building a strange church came to the mind of a local resident of advanced age - Daniel Alamsya, who was firmly convinced that the Almighty himself spoke to him at night and ordered to build a house of prayer, where representatives of any religious confessions would be allowed to enter.

Daniel immediately set to work with zeal, deciding that the institution should be in the form of a dove, symbolizing peace and purity. In fact, what happened and the locals called the building a chicken church. Daniel faced construction difficulties and not all of them were related to the technical side of the matter. There were protests against the church, people resisted the emergence of such an ambiguous structure.

Chicken Church Life

It so happened that the building does not look too much like a dove. But the attributes in the form of an open beak of a concrete bird and a strange crown on its head, makes people think that this is a cackling hen or a rooster to the crest on the crown.

From the inside, the building looks much more decent: openwork windows, streamlined shapes and a large cross in the ceiling, from where light flows.

It was not possible to complete the construction completely, which did not prevent, 10 years after the beginning of the line, from starting to use the meetinghouse for other purposes. The local administration allocated premises inside to accommodate disabled children undergoing rehabilitation, there was also a center for the rehabilitation of people suffering from various addictions and here they welcomed the mentally ill.

Today, the building, due to its unusual shape, attracts numerous travelers and tourists, who ride in search of new sensations on the islands of Indonesia. Many couples in love come to these parts to conduct an original photo session, and some of them even want to get married inside a church that has never become a church.

But due to the fact that in the damp and humid climate of the island, an unattended building quickly falls into disrepair, tourists are advised to be on the lookout. Because the plaster falls off, the structural elements rot and, the hour is uneven, you can get injured.
