Shooting a thin section of the rail with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and sniper rifles destroyed another urban legend.

A video appeared on the network that answers a question that pops up with enviable regularity in men's conversations. Will a bullet from a Kalashnikov assault rifle pierce the neck of a railroad rail? A video filmed by specialists from the WarSpot channel from the series "How the SOBR squad is being prepared" is posted on their YouTube channel.

For the experiment, a standard rail with a neck width (its narrow part) of 18 millimeters was taken. Shooting was carried out from a distance of 50 meters from an AK-74 Kalashnikov assault rifle (cartridge 5, 45x39), an SV-98 sniper rifle (cartridge 7, 62x54) and a VSK-94 sniper rifle (cartridge 9x39). As you can see when watching the video, not a single weapon was able to pierce the rail in its narrow part, which refutes the urban legend that a bullet from a Kalashnikov assault rifle does it with ease.

As a continuation of the experiment, it would be very interesting to see firing on a rail from the Russian large-caliber Kord-M rifle, also known under the designations ASVK-M and 6V7M-1. It uses sniper cartridges 12, 7 × 108 mm and, according to its characteristics, from a distance of up to 2000 meters, a bullet fired from this rifle penetrates 15 mm armor.

An ideal conclusion would be a test of the new Ukrainian rifle "Armata-killer" STL-016, which is a deep modernization based on the Mosin rifle, adopted by the Russian Imperial Army back in 1891. The rifle is chambered for 300 Winchester Short Magnum cartridges (analogue of 7.62 mm caliber), which, according to the manufacturer, "are capable of knocking out the new battle tanks of the Russian Federation (T-14) of the Armata platform."
