What are Russian cultural codes? How do they help or hinder the development of our State? Having realized the advantages and disadvantages of their thinking, their mentality, it will be much easier for the Russian people to take their rightful place in the global world.

In order to talk about cultural codes, their advantages for the Russian people in relation to other nations, it is necessary to define the very concept of “culture”.

The encyclopedic definition defines culture as human activity in its various manifestations, including all forms and methods of human self-expression and self-knowledge, the accumulation of skills and abilities by a person and society as a whole.

What have the Russians given to the modern world? Lots of:

Often from representatives of the ruling and business elite (which, in fact, also belongs to the ruling class), one can hear such phrases in relation to the Russian people: “wrong mentality”, “medieval nation” (all of Europe is in the modern world, and we past), "and I would rather live in London", "look how in Finland / Singapore / developed countries … but here …".

The historical roots of these sentiments go beyond the scope of this article, but in general they can be summarized by the words - "we got some wrong people, over which we have to rule."

Is it possible to imagine a representative of the administrative elite of another country, publicly speaking negatively towards his people? For example, in Japan, or in the Anglo-Saxon world? This has never been and never will be.

By and large, the real elite, in principle, cannot criticize its people, these are its initial conditions of the task with which it must work - after all, its main duty is to know, respect and effectively use the people in its management activities, including in confrontation with other elites … And if the elite proposes to change the conditions of the task - the people, then, as a rule, something else happens - the change of the elite by the people, and not in the most peaceful forms. It's easier, faster and more logical.

What is wrong with the mentality of the Russian people, which is so often criticized by the modern Russian elite?

The mentality of the Russian people is very clearly expressed in Russian folk tales.

Everyone knows the game "broken phone", when information transmitted through several people returns in an unrecognizable form. But why, then, the contents of fairy tales pass through the millennia?

Firstly, fairy tales are plot-based, script-based, they are not linear text. Secondly, they used to be rhymed. In fact, this is a mnemonic technology for transmitting information, where through bright abstract characters multiplied by rhymes, complexly linked to each other, there is a minimal loss and distortion of meaning.

Let's analyze the Russian fairy tale about Emelya.

At first glance, here it is, the cause of all our problems is the usual laziness, the main character is sitting on the stove and does not want to do anything. But why does a people with such archetypes have the largest area of the country in the world and have not been defeated by any army in the world? It hardly made sense to pass through the millennia negative at first glance characters like the simpleton Emelya and Ivanushka the idiot, if they did not contribute to the solution of civilizational problems.

In order to better understand this topic, let's conditionally divide people's thinking into three categories: monolectic, dialectician, trialectic.

The former include two social castes: scientists or priests - they care about one thesis, one truth, there cannot be two - God created everything (monotheism), or everything was created by the Big Bang (orthodox physics) - there are no two options.

Dialectics think in two categories: gain or loss (for which they pay more), or victory-defeat. Traditionally, these are two castes: military and business. Therefore, even the terminology of business and the military is similar - strategic companies, personnel, market capture, strategic planning …

Trialectics are those who are responsible for harmony, for the creation of a new whole from parts. These traditionally include writers, artists and, of course, inventors.

What did the old man ask the fish in the fairy tale "About the Fisherman and the Fish"? Nothing. What did the old woman ask for? In her requests, the heyday and death of dialecticians is a constant "seizure of markets" and a broken trough as a result.

As a rule, it is very difficult to combine different models of thinking, therefore the business is not adapted for invention, and inventions are created by those who are not at all interested in the financial side of the issue.

We also note that Vasilisa the Beautiful, Princess Frog, Vasilisa the Wise - never marry a husband for a tsar, general, or merchant. Always for the "entertainer" -trialectics: Ivanushka the Fool, Emelya, Fedot. Thus, through the millennia, such an archetype always gets the highest award - a smart, beautiful wife.

Another cultural code, reflected in Russian folk tales, and associated with female nature: to pass off as the first comer. This is pronounced only by the king in relation to his daughter, the princess. Imagine that you are a Russian tsar who is being offered a groom for a princess. Everyone takes part in promoting their candidate and increasing their influence. Thus, a huge number of people are trying to influence the strategic choice of the first person. At the same time, the capricious princess also chooses - I don’t want that, I don’t want that. But a person who accidentally ended up in the courtyard of the Russian tsar is an unambiguous informal, a hero, a trialectic in the current classification, and he is guaranteed not to belong to any of the factions that push their candidates through.

Let's go back to Emela, he:

  3. Uses as a resource what no one considers a resource.
  4. Uses schemes that require minimal use of additional complex resources.

The analogy with the best examples of the Russian design school is very characteristic here.

Russian cultural codes in construction:

  1. The design must be “ideal”, that is, it must not change its efficiency under any conceivable or inconceivable interference in production or operation.
  2. The design should not require special production conditions, special repair conditions or special operating conditions (complexity of processes, equipment or personnel).

If a nation is spontaneous, this allows it to grow in one generation from a peasant to an academician, designer or commander. As the famous joke says: is it possible to defeat the people who learn their plans from foreign intelligence? In the country where the son of a fisherman founded the first Russian University, it is impossible to prevent the emergence of geniuses - you can destroy a school, and a genius will leave the vocational school, it is impossible to predict.

The Russian education system is essentially a search system for spontaneously born talents.

  1. In Russian civilization, talents can be born in unprepared, non-systemic places.
  2. In Russian civilization, talents can reach the highest level in one generation, but the places of appearance are not repeated later. This is the problem of science cities, since academicians are not born in a family of academicians.
  3. Russian civilization has a large percentage of people capable of reaching the highest level in one generation.

Therefore, in the Soviet school, a large number of subjects were taught, creating an excessive picture and a broad outlook, which gave a good start for everyone in the conditions of the spontaneous appearance of talented people on the territory of the country. Then there were methods for quickly raising such people - Olympiads, special schools.

Russian cultural code number 3. High speed of learning and learning

Americans still believe that one of the unique phenomena during World War II is the high learning rate of the Soviet army - from the most severe defeats in 1941, to the onset of 1943, many enemy techniques are involved, no worse, and more often better than them, while not stopping fighting without leaving the clash with the best army in the world of that time.

True, this feature also has a downside - a high speed of learning. A children's joke is well suited for illustration: A hedgehog walked, forgot how to breathe and died. Then he remembered and walked on. Since the 70s, for example, the Soviet design school with a unique performance has essentially been destroyed and has not yet been fully restored.

Russian cultural code number 4. Spontaneity and amateur performance

Let us now consider how and where decisions are made in Russia. A good example of this is a pedestrian crossing with a traffic light. In Russia, it is difficult to find a person who would not cross the road at a red light. Let's remember one joke that readers sent to Mikhail Zadornov:

At first glance, we can say that this is such an upbringing - the Germans, even at 12 at night, on an empty street will stand and wait for the green signal, and not educated Russians go over when they please. However, things are not so simple.

Let's consider two decision-making models - Anglo-Saxon, to which both Europe and Russian belong. In Europe, the place for making and executing decisions is divided. Decision-making has been transferred to the authorities - the Duma, the parliament, the president, the prime minister - the institutions of power make a decision - to cross the road to red, and not vice versa. People standing at a traffic light do not have the right to make a decision - they have delegated it to the authorities.

It would seem that laws have also been adopted in Russia, there are traffic rules, but in fact the decision is made by the one who stands at the traffic light. He did not give anyone the right to decide for himself when to cross the road, and will act depending on the current situation.

And this applies not only to the crossing of the road to red. There are phenomena in Russia that cannot be imagined in a disciplined West.

Going to the red light- a Russian person decides for himself when to go, based on the current situation (night, no cars, cars are far away, cars are slowly driving in a traffic jam, the traffic light has broken down).

Creative tax payment system- the Russian person decides how much to pay.

The current practice of paying taxes for medium and small businesses, regardless of external tax rules, is to evade taxes at an approximate level - "conscientiously", about 10%, because if you pay less, they will notice and there may be problems, but paying more is not solid. because no one else deducts.

Arbitrariness of officials- the official decides for himself how best to do it. Therefore, management decisions that are often lowered from above are hindered by the actions of subordinate officials. In short, it can be formulated as follows: "Everyone has the right to their opinion, but my opinion is more correct."

Corrupt practices- a person decides for himself how and when to reward himself. Based on the principle: the state may not reward, but now there is a specific situation that allows you to do it yourself. There is a risk that they will "catch up", but, firstly, this is still a question, and secondly, you can share it with someone who is "catching up".

Folklore- amateur animals and amateur things - gusli-samogudy, self-assembled tablecloth, "by the pike's command", "go there, I don't know where, bring that, I don't know what, and preferably something that can't be at all",

All these phenomena can be combined into a cultural code: SPONTANCY AND SELF-ACTIVITY OF THE POPULATION.

  1. The Russian never really delegates the decision-making power to either the boss or the authorities.
  2. If he once delegated this right, he can revoke it at any time.
  3. The Russian elite behaves like a people, vulgarly, does not demonstrate any special elite behavior. For example, the elite declared that the double line should not be crossed. But the official thinks that he has a “different situation” - a flashing light, an important meeting. And behind him, the double continuous line is crossed by ordinary "mortals" who also view the situation in context. For a Russian person, the real dividing line is at least concrete blocks. And then, someone will definitely check the strength of the system. And the two lines drawn along the road are a convention that you can always agree on even with a traffic police inspector.

Domestic scientists calculated how many psychotypes of a driver there are in Russia, which determine how a driver reacts to signs and textual information on the road, how he positions himself in the general structure of the traffic flow, obeys the general flow or looks for individual detours.

It turned out that in Japan, for example, there is one single psychotype of the driver, which makes it possible to effectively apply transport solutions and standards common to all across the country. In Europe, the number of psychotypes that perceive information in different ways is 3-4: Scandinavian, Central European and Southern type of drivers, as well as people from North Africa and the Middle East.

In Russia, scientists settled on 18 varieties, but they admit that this is far from all - minibus drivers, whose behavior on the road requires a separate study, fall outside any scope.

Dutch psychologist Fons Trompenaars conditionally divided people into universalists and particularists. For universalists, there are immutable laws that cannot be violated. For particularists, only a specific situation really exists; no universal laws exist for them.

Fons Trompenaars researched about 50 nations, and for research he chose the following question: You are driving a car, your friend is driving. Your friend runs over a pedestrian, you drove away, there were no witnesses, your actions - you call the police to report the incident, or do not call. Europe was divided into northern and southern. Anglo-Saxons, Scandinavians, Germans, Protestant countries in general - turned out to be universalists, the law is more important, regardless of the fact that your friend knocked down a person. Southern Europe - Italy, France, Spain - looked at the specific situation and generally tended not to inform others. To strengthen the situation, the question was asked, how would the situation have changed if you learned that the hit pedestrian had died? However, the situation has not changed. For the universalists, if a person died, all the more it is necessary to report to the police. For particularists - if he is already dead, then what is the point in giving up a friend.

There are cases when, during the revolution in Germany in 1919, revolutionaries ran after counter-revolutionaries and vice versa, they shot at each other and killed, while running around the lawns. Because you can't run on lawns.

Despite the fact that this study did not talk about Russia, it is easy to understand that, according to this classification, we are a country of particularists, acting on the basis of a specific situation. It is clear that both positions and transitional forms are present within the nation, but on the whole, one dominates.

Russian cultural code number 5. Search for the boundaries of the possible (degrees of freedom)

This cultural code is easy to feel in the famous anecdote:

  3. Code plays a negative role in the conveyor economy and the European regular state.
  4. Code offers tremendous benefits in an innovative, inventive economy.

We are not a conveyor nation and never will be. One of the symbols of Russia is the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed - nine domes, all of different colors and different shapes.

And the result is a predictable, accurate result. Many are still fascinated by the smooth streets, cleanliness in Europe, the pedantry of the Germans, and so on.

However, everyone forgets that America has a debt of 100% of GDP, Japan has 200%, and none of the stories of economists in these countries that this is normal do not correspond to simple common sense. The conveyor, industrial economy with the idea of constant growth has reached a dead end. The time of uncertainty is coming. And it is in these conditions that Russia has great chances for a huge leap forward, which cannot be compared in terms of effectiveness with the strategy of “catching up and overtaking”.

Russian cultural code number 6. Maybe 2.0

Why is the Russian "Avos" bad, but the action according to the plan is good? Why has there never been an "avos" in Europe?

You can imagine the industrial world in the form of a railroad. It has a beginning and an end, just as a plan always has an end goal. If technologies, markets, government do not change for 30 years - such a strategy is successful.

But if the situation has become changeable, spontaneous, in these conditions, Perhaps it gives much more advantages. And in such a situation, the image of a knight at a crossroads, redundantly equipped for any attack is also a Russian cultural code.

Perhaps it is the management of probabilities in a situation of extreme uncertainty. This is not an everyday concept, but the intuition of a professional, in conditions of extreme uncertainty and pressure over time, is an extremely powerful analytical tool.

  2. With cultural problems of communication, “random” choice is “fairer”, and therefore faster and cheaper.
  3. In extreme uncertainty, with a shortage of time, “random” choice is more effective than “debatable choice”. A bad implemented decision is better than a good one, which is ripe for the end of the season.
  4. In a particularistic culture, where contexts and group interests play an important role, “random” choice is more objective than “given parameters” choice.

Let's conditionally divide civilizations according to three characteristics: thinking, communication, activity.

Europe - thinking and communication. There is no activity.

The European is very weak in activity, dependent on comfort, the tank must be impenetrable, shower in war, sunscreen, generals must be trained and further down the list. Therefore, he is not responsible for the task at hand, he will fulfill any law that is written above. But if a catastrophe occurs, the European has the right to strike: "I followed all your laws and regulations, the lack of results is your problem."

China and Japan - communication and activity, no thinking.

The other pole is lack of thinking. Neither the Chinese nor the Japanese came up with anything new. The inventions of other countries were incredibly optimized, but they did not make super inventions. Enormous executive discipline, incredible precision and … lack of creativity, improvisation.

India - thinking and acting. There is no communication.

Hindus with brahmanas - there is a communication problem. The brahmana simply approached the peasant, pointed his finger and spoke without any explanations, instructions or intermediaries - this one is here. The middle link, in modern terms, middle management, in Indian culture, due to the division into castes, is generally absent.

An approximate history in Russia is the lack of communication. Conventionally, one Russian soldier can be sent into battle, even without a weapon. He will dig in himself, help the officer figure out the situation if he panicked, but what happens between the soldier and the field marshal? The entire industrial model is built on a well-trained middle link, "middle management", which Russia does not have, has never existed and never will.

Russian cultural code number 7. Belief in a good tsar, gathering Russian lands, Russian radial network

This is often criticized for the Russians - the belief in the Russian tsar as a medieval relic.

There are two concepts - nation puzzle and nation mirror. If you break the puzzle, it will consist of separate pieces, each place of which is defined in the overall picture. Therefore, during the subsequent assembly of a separate element, a person enters into communication in order to take the place that he occupied before disassembling the puzzle.

But if you break the mirror, each of the pieces will have a whole image. And when a fellow tries to make such a mirror, the pieces do not add up like puzzles to their strictly defined place.

The Russian people have developed a survival formula in the image of a broken mirror - a radial network. All directions converge in one center. In Russia, the roads to Moscow are always better than the roads between neighboring cities, and this is not an accident or arbitrariness of road services. From all the cities of Siberia, it is easier to fly to Moscow than to the neighboring city. In Russia, a radial network has developed with the assembly center - Moscow, in this case Moscow is not as a city, but rather as an image, is the assembly center of Russian lands. And Vladivostok is friends with Kaliningrad only through Moscow.

Faith in a "good king" operates on the same principle. A Russian man has a "personal contract" with the tsar and with God. Conditionally: “The Tsar-Father is such a mess, Moscow was given to the Poles, the economy was killed, I will definitely not come to an agreement with a neighbor, so you have extraordinary powers. But your boyars, deputies, ministers, no trust - they have always been and will be embezzlers, swindlers and thieves. " Because the contract is only with the first person. No intermediaries. As with God.

Therefore, a poet in Russia is more than a poet. Poets were more expressive of unity than anyone else in a country with non-linear connections. For example, the dissident and the KGB officer listened to Vysotsky, who listened to the dissident, the MAZA driver and the MAZA designer, the OBKHSSnik and the shop worker who was imprisoned by the OBKHSSnik, in general, all segments of the population, and everyone had the same picture of Russia. Because he became a “assemblage point”, a person-mirror that reflects the general picture, and at the same time the educational, social, property qualification does not affect the completeness and unity of this picture.

Korolev, Tupolev, Barmin - were also a mirror of their teams, which, thanks to solidarity and mutual understanding, built the most complex structures in the shortest possible time.

At the same time, it is important that in such a system there are almost no horizontal connections. A zone of trust and personal contact is created around the mirror personality. Then a zone of reflected trust gradually emerges, which covers the entire team and allows you to work effectively. And only then there are the stages of regular events, interactions, the exchange of knowledge and competencies, and as a result - the stage of complex projects.

The Russian troika is a sports car of the pre-industrial period - the speed is 45 km / h, all three horses are going in different directions, the head of the two side horses is lifted up, so they run "at a run", while they run at different heights - the two extreme horses lifted the front one, therefore she has less stress when running, and she sets the pace. The other two have to adjust to this high pace. That is, in order to go forward the fastest, three different horses must go in different directions at different heights.
