As it became known, on October 18, one of the oldest Russian writers, Ivan Vladimirovich Drozdov (born in 1922), died. The writer left at the 98th year of his life, a little short of his 100th birthday. On October 21, a farewell took place with him at the Nikolo-Arkhangelskoye cemetery in Moscow. Here the writer was cremated, and he will be buried - according to his will - together with his wife at the Vostryakovskoye cemetery.

Drozdov began to publish in the press back in the 30s of the last century. In 1940-1941. studied at the Grozny Military Aviation School of Shooters-Bombardiers (specialty - navigator of military aviation), was the editor of the newspaper "Proud Falcon". Participated in the Great Patriotic War, was awarded orders and medals.

At one time, Drozdov was a literary assistant to the commander of the Air Force of the Moscow Military District Vasily Stalin, then Air Marshal Stepan Krasovsky.

Demobilized from the army with the rank of captain in the late fifties, Drozdov studied at the Literary Institute. A. M. Gorky. He worked as a journalist for the Izvestia newspaper, was deputy editor-in-chief of the Main Editorial Office of Fiction (Rosizdat) of the Press Committee under the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, acting and deputy editor-in-chief of the Sovremennik publishing house, etc.

Drozdov's most famous works are, perhaps, the novels Gone with Vodka (about Russian writers who were killed by alcohol) and The Last Ivan (an autobiographical story about the struggle against cosmopolitanism and Russophobia).

Literaturnaya Gazeta expresses its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
