As you know, the legendary Ford Model T car ran on biofuels based on hemp, and also included biopolymer materials developed using this plant. Today, cars with internal combustion engines are being replaced by modern electric cars with batteries. And recently it was found that hemp-derived nutrients are as much as 8 times more effective than lithium-ion cells.

Researcher Robert Murray Smith posted an experiment on his YouTube channel that clearly showed the high performance of a hemp battery.

Back in 2014, American scientists discovered that waste fibers from hemp crops could be turned into "ultra-fast" supercapacitors that are "better than graphene." Recall that graphene is a synthetic carbon material that is lighter than foil, but bulletproof. Moreover, its production is extremely expensive. The hemp counterpart is not only better in performance, but also a thousand times cheaper.

Using hydrothermal synthesis, scientists converted the remains of hemp bast fiber into carbon nanoribbons.

“People are wondering: why cannabis? I answer: why not? - says Dr. David Mitlin of Clarkson University (New York) in an interview with the BBC. "We create graphene-like materials for one thousandth the price - and at the same time from waste!"

Dr. Mitlin's team has processed the fibers into supercapacitors, ideal for machines that require power surges.

In late 2018, electric motorcycle company Alternet, based in Texas, announced that it was partnering with Mitlin to equip its subsidiary ReVolt Electric Motorbikes.

It has long been known that hemp biofuels are an excellent alternative to traditional fuels. Now it turns out that the plant is also useful for the production of batteries and eliminates the need to extract lithium, harming the environment.
