Maybe the success of the series is due to the fact that against their background the viewer will definitely feel like a "respectable citizen" who does not experience the degenerative inclinations of the characters in this documentary. From the first episodes, the authors openly demonstrate what is hidden behind the facade of the personality of the park owner. Gradually, shocking facts begin to emerge.
For example, the fact that Joe is a homosexual with the manners of a trucker, who does not hide his predilections and actively mixes his personal life and work. He even manages to marry two of his employees, John and Travis, on the same day. For the wedding, three grooms appear in jeans and pink shirts. Fact Two: One of Joe's apparently very happy husbands, Travis, has a serious drug addiction. It all ends sadly. One day, he picks up a gun and shoots himself in the head.
Fact three: park employees work in especially dangerous jobs seven days a week and for a paltry salary of $ 20 a day. Fact four: the park contains a lot of animals at the same time. In one period, the number of tigers reached 227 individuals. It takes a lot of money to feed them, 60-70 thousand dollars a month. And by the end of the series, viewers will find out that Joe was killing aged animals, on which it was no longer possible to make money.
Well, the fifth fact. In such work with people, of course, injuries happen. One day a tiger bites the hand of one of the employees. The wound is so serious that the arm has to be amputated. But Joe forces the unfortunate man to return to work within 5 days after the operation to cover up safety gaps. Another theme that runs throughout the film is the conflict with conservationist Carol Basky. Which, by the way, is not without reason suspected of the murder of a missing rich husband. Suddenly, the conflict escalates into a high-profile trial. As a result, Joe, in addition to being charged with cruelty to animals, is also charged with organizing the premeditated murder of his rival.
As a result, "King of the Tigers" from the documentary about animals becomes an example of how something vile and base is hidden behind the facade of good intentions and aspirations. But, of course, among the people who organize parks and reserves, there are those who truly love animals and are ready to devote their lives to them.
And the most famous of them is Kevin Richardson. In 2007, one of the British newspapers called him "the lion charmer" and this nickname firmly stuck to the famous zoologist. Because, observing his relationship with these wild cats, other words simply do not come to mind. As the famous Zapashny brothers like to say, anyone can enter the cage with the kings of animals, but not everyone will be able to get out of it alive, weighing under 2 centners.
But the essence of Richardson's relationship with his charges is quite different - there are no cells! It all started in early childhood. Kevin was born in the suburbs of Johannesburg in 1974. As the zoologist himself jokes, in a past life he was a lion, therefore, from the age of 3, apart from the wild, nothing and no one existed for him.
Having entered the zoological faculty of the university, two years later he abandoned it. The guy was just bored of learning the basics of biology with their amoebas and bacteria. His heart called him to the big, clawed predators, beloved from childhood. Having quickly trained as a physical therapist, Kevin began working, concluding that animals would remain for him only a hobby. But you can't get away from fate and love.
