Borogonsky nasleg (a rural community among the Yakuts) of the Ust-Aldan ulus declared itself a territory of sobriety three years ago and has been living without alcohol for these years. For three years, not a single criminal case has been initiated in the past, and the incidence has decreased by half.
Residents of the Borogonsky nasleg of Ust-Aldansky ulus in 2012, by a general vote at a gathering, refused to sell alcoholic beverages. The initiator of this decision was the newly minted head of the nasleg Vasily Alekseev. Over the past three years, Nasleg has reached unprecedented heights.
For three years not a single criminal offense has been committed. Until 2012, the district police were regularly instigating 2-3 criminal cases. After the adoption of the "dry law", the percentage of criminal cases in nasleg is 0%. According to residents, earlier crimes were committed on the basis of drinking alcoholic beverages. “Children began to walk freely through the streets, not afraid to meet drunk people along the way, and the owners of houses no longer lock the doors at night,” the public said at a meeting.
The incidence has also decreased. According to the chief physician, if in 2011 942 people with a general morbidity applied to the hospital, then after refusing to use and sell alcoholic beverages, this figure fell by half.
The public activity of nasleg residents has increased. In recent years, not only women, as in most of the peoples of Yakutia, but also men and young people, have begun to engage in social activities. The male half of the population began to actively work together with the head for the benefit of the nazleg. A strong half of the population built an iron arch on their own at the entrance to the Heritage Center - Tumul, made a signboard “Take care of the forest” with seven cranes. The men formed several public associations. Young people made a wooden sign "I love Tumul" near the village. Young people go in for sports, participate in cultural events. In recent years, Nasleg residents have shot four feature films. One of them, "Sir Iye Bilbetin" ("Let Mother Earth Don't Know"), about the life of the Yakutians in the rear during the Second World War, became known throughout the republic.
Every weekday evening, the gym in the village of Tumul is filled with people who want to go in for sports. Residents of Borogonsky nasleg in recent years have been winning prizes at regional sports competitions.
All celebrations in Borogonsky nasleg are held without alcoholic beverages. The inhabitants of this nasleg celebrate any wedding or anniversary without alcohol. According to the director of the club, guests of the celebration from other naslegs or districts are always surprised by this phenomenon.
