This is a "coronal hole", an area where the solar magnetic field peeled back and released gaseous material into space. The enhanced magnetic fields at the leading edge of the stream will interact with our planet's magnetosphere, possibly causing soft magnetic storms.

But there is still interesting information, which once again confirms that the Sun is still getting stronger, despite the fact that the Moon blocks the access of solar energies to the Earth during an eclipse.

Archaeologists have found an ancient petroglyph left in stone in the Chaco Canyon in the US state of New Mexico, which depicts a total solar eclipse. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the University of Colorado at Boulder. The image was found back in 1992. According to the researchers, on the rock you can see the solar corona, which people could have observed during the total solar eclipse on July 11, 1097. The petroglyph has an unusual circle with curved rays.

This image is reminiscent of a drawing drawn by a German astronomer in 1860 during a solar eclipse during a period of high solar activity. The ring next to the circle could represent a coronal mass ejection.

In their study, scientists tried to establish what was the solar activity during the total solar eclipse in 1097. For this, the content of the carbon-14 isotope in the tree rings was analyzed. Less carbon-14 is indicative of more sunspots and high solar activity, scientists say.

And here's another very interesting news. The increased solar activity and the apparently unpredictability of the coming solar eclipse arouses a lot of interest among a certain part of the population. Apparently, in this regard, on August 23 in the United States it is planned to conduct a large-scale exercise "EarthEX2017" associated with the actions of special services and various departments to develop cooperation in the case of "large-scale power outages." In the exercise scenario, the power outage would be "sub-continental, long power outage with cascading failures of all other infrastructures." Exercise "EarthEX2017" will be conducted to develop responses to mega earthquakes, cyber terrorism or large electromagnetic pulse attacks.
