The camp was established on March 7, 1942. For 8 years of its existence, from 1942 to 1950, about 50 thousand prisoners of war of 23 nationalities passed through the camp. The village is located on the shore of Lake Baikal, 188 km northeast of the city of Ulan-Ude, with which it is connected by road. The village is named after the healing hot springs.
