Photography is an amazing technology that allows a person with a camera to capture a moment in history and keep it forever. How many interesting and unique photographs of correspondents are still gathering dust in the archives? Fortunately, something like that breaks into the information space.
1. Free borscht
Here is such an event.
Photo from Washington, 1953. An emigrant working in a Ukrainian restaurant is pasting an advertising poster that the restaurant is serving free borscht to visitors. Much more interesting in all this is the reason. This is the death of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin.
2. Margaret Thatcher in a Soviet supermarket
Historical photo.
Between her press coverage and diplomatic negotiations over nuclear weapons, the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher, traveled to various parts of the Soviet Union. Once she even went to the front line at that time a store, where she was photographed in front of cans of horse mackerel.
3. Smoke for the enemy
The difference is attitude.
This photograph was taken by Soviet war correspondents in 1943. A Soviet soldier shares cigarettes with captured Reich soldiers. Although many Wehrmacht soldiers will not survive Soviet captivity, their conditions of detention and further fate look much more optimistic than what awaited the Red Army prisoners in the Nazi camps.
4. Fidel-photographer
A person must have a hobby.
When Cuba announced that it would follow the socialist path of development, it created a real sensation in the USSR. The island nation received much-needed military support. At the same time, the friendship between Fidel Castro and Nikita Khrushchev began. Fidel even photographed the secretary general on his Polaroid during a visit to the country.
5. Large construction site
Huge construction site.
A rare photograph taken during the construction of the Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov. Even in this form, the building looks colossal! A real temple of knowledge.
6. "Bavarian" policemen
Unexpected turn.
Take a closer look at this car in the photo taken in the 1980s. Doesn't it seem strange? Quite right, this is a BMW car delivered to the traffic police of the Soviet Union.
7. Donald Trump in Leningrad
I tried to establish a business in the USSR.
In the summer of 1987, a young and incredibly successful entrepreneur, Donald Trump, visited the country of the Soviets to negotiate the possibility of opening a private hotel. The negotiations, of course, ended in nothing, but Trump has such a photo as a souvenir.
8. "Behind the Scenes of the Bolshoi Ballet"
After a hard performance.
This photograph was taken in 1983 by photographer Vladimir Vyatkin. The photo was so successful that it was able to take the first prize at the international competition of journalists World Press Photo.
9. At Moscow State University
Science granite.
Photo taken at one of the lectures at Moscow State University in 1963. Photographed by the famous Soviet journalist Vsevolod Tarasevich. In fact, he created a whole series of photos that were dedicated to various educational institutions in the country.
10. Jubilant people
Long-awaited victory.
Photo taken in 1945. The jubilant people were captured on it by Georgy Petrusov. The Red Army man kisses the rejoicing girl.
