Since the construction of the pyramids, people have implemented ingenious, insane, grandiose architectural and engineering projects. Sometimes for this you have to work in the most unexpected and inhospitable places. Including under water. Fortunately, modern technologies provide the broadest opportunities in the field of construction and repair.
Fixing a car or putting up a fence in the country is not so difficult. Most often, even one more or less prepared person will cope with any of these tasks. However, what if you need to fix a huge passenger liner, sea tanker or put a bridge across the sea strait? Such tasks look much more difficult, especially if you add a small detail to them, all this needs to be done directly on the spot in the water. Especially for such situations, cofferdams were created by humans.
A rubber dam is a temporary waterproof frame that is installed directly in the water at a specific location for engineering work. The process of creating such an engineering structure itself is quite long and complicated. First of all, huge piles are driven in at the site of the rubber dam. After that, the structure is assembled on site, dropping in parts to the bottom, or assembled in a dry dock, and then brought to the place and installed all at once on piles prepared in advance.
Note: The dam cannot be placed anywhere. Before its installation, serious work is being carried out to analyze, first of all, the marine soil at a specific construction site. In addition, engineers must consider the severity of ice and storm attacks, as well as temperature fluctuations.
As soon as the rubber dam is installed, the third stage of work begins - pumping out the water. When this is done, targeted work will begin at the facility: repair of a ship, construction of a bridge, laying a gas pipeline, liquidating oil accidents, etc. All this has become possible thanks to modern technology.

Discoveries of underwater exploration of the Black Sea
In the water area of the Crimea, more than 2,000 ships were found that sank in different eras: from the times of the Bosporus kingdom to the period of the Great Patriotic War. What was on board these ships? What historical events and personalities are associated with these objects? And most importantly, what are the goals set by archaeologists? These questions were answered by Viktor Vakhoneev, Deputy Director of the Black Sea Center for Underwater Research
ConShelf I project - an underwater house at the bottom of the ocean
He was definitely a genius. First he gave the world scuba gear, then he devoted his life to the sea and raised the study of the world's oceans to a new level. But it was not enough for Jacques-Yves Cousteau to simply swim in the seas and shoot marine life on camera. He wanted to change the whole world and influence the history of human civilization. In 1962, Cousteau launched an absolutely fantastic project: his team spent a total of 3 months in houses at the bottom of the ocean
Underwater cities concepts that could save humanity
As the latest achievements of mankind show, life under water is possible. You should not look at Mars or other celestial bodies, dreaming of creating cities of the future there. It is better to take a closer look at the underwater space of the ocean, it is nevertheless closer and dearer. As it turned out, there are already amazing projects of underwater cities, the developers of which are convincing that it is they who will save humanity from natural disasters and disasters. Who knows, maybe not in such a distant future we will be able to choose our own housing
The most ancient, accessible and mysterious underwater cities
Legends tell us about the magical city of Kitezh, which went under water, about the mysterious civilization of Atlantis, which ended up at the bottom of the sea after a mysterious cataclysm. However, underwater cities exist in reality. They are looking for, unearthed, and various artifacts are obtained from there. Very often, the history of these flooded settlements, their heyday and death, their searches and finds turns out to be more interesting than any legends
