The end of the publication, in which we briefly present the most vivid thoughts and illustrative passages of Michel Auden's book "Childbirth Reborn" (Part 1 here).
In the maternity ward in Pitivier, long-term physical contact between the mother and the baby immediately after childbirth was encouraged, since this is a very powerful stimulation of hormonal metabolism in the mother's body, which contributes to the natural birth of the placenta without any intervention, and there are no special rooms for keeping babies - children are always close to the mother … There is no definite moment for cutting the umbilical cord.
Natural childbirth, which Auden practiced in Pitivier, significantly reduces the likelihood of postpartum depression, as it often develops due to hormonal imbalances. A sensitive attitude to the hormonal balance in a woman's body during labor and childbirth and not using medication helps to avoid abnormal hormonal fluctuations.
Auden also touches upon the topic of medical examinations of pregnant women in his book. Endless analyzes, doctors' consultations, as if pregnancy is a disease … He himself is of the opinion that such an intervention only harms the pregnant woman, and does not benefit. Take, for example, tests - they will never be within the normal range for the entire pregnancy, one will certainly go off scale. The gynecologist will focus the attention of a pregnant woman on this, and she will start to worry.
In addition to the fact that in the Pitivier clinic, ultrasound is contrary to the principle of minimum intervention, Auden has another reason to use this type of examination of a pregnant woman as little as possible:
