The film "Ink Heart" is an adventure kind fairy tale that immerses the viewer in the magical world of books and tells about eternal values: family, loyalty, honesty … The film is based on the first part of the book trilogy of the same name. Unfortunately, the world never saw the adaptation of the rest of the book series.

Plot

Ink Heart tells the story of a family in love with books. Its head, Mortimer "Mo" Foulhart, has the gift of transferring book reality into the real world. Mo has a wife, Teresa, and a daughter, Meggie. Once, Mo, not knowing about his unusual ability, accidentally calls into our world characters from a fairy tale called "Ink Heart", and instead of them, his wife Teresa gets into the book world.

Many years later, Mo with an already grown daughter, obsessed with the desire to find this book in order to return his wife, finally finds it. At the same time, fate brings him together with those fairy-tale characters whom he once brought into our world: some demand to return them back, others, on the contrary, want even more fairy-tale villains to turn out in reality … Thus, the adventure begins.

The magic of literature

First of all, the film reminds the viewer of how wonderful it is to read, and what great horizons the world of literature opens up for a person. Moreover, each character has a slightly different love of books.

For example, Mo doesn't like to read modern literature. He is drawn to ancient manuscripts full of fantastic stories, which are written in ink on pages that have turned yellow with time. Mo's profession is a "book doctor", he binds and restores old editions, however, Mo speaks about them with clients as about living people, calling a book that has faded over time "a patient", and indeed, like a real doctor, bringing it back to life

His daughter Maggie loves something more modern and fashionable. With great delight, she notices a new book from her favorite series at the fair, and her father, sighing deeply, trudges into the library to his next "patient", leaving Meggie with her find.

Eleanor is Maggie's aunt. She is one of those who like to replace her very real problems with fairy-tale worlds, but, fortunately, in the finale, she musters up the courage to help the main characters.

Another character in the film is the writer who created the book Ink Heart. He is shown as a person, albeit creative, but weak in spirit, because, like Eleanor, he lives in fictional worlds, and is not able to overcome his craving for escape from reality.

Using the example of such different stories of interaction with literature, the film shows us that not all reading is beneficial, we must always, even plunging into fantastic worlds, maintain a certain meaningfulness and connection with reality.

The power of thought and word

An interesting enough idea is revealed on the example of the unique ability of the protagonist: after reading about something in the book and vividly imagining it, Mo transfers his images to the real world. For this, the fairytale characters nicknamed him "The Magic Tongue". But not only Mo: we all have a similar power of thought, although not in such a vivid form.

Thoughts are material, but not because what you think about always comes true, but because any changes and actions begin with an idea that, putting on a certain form (song, book, film, visual image) begins to influence her life. the creator, and the people around. Everything that is built and created in our world was preceded by someone's creative thought and the will to implement it.

Just as the heroine of the film, who wrote and read aloud the ending of this story, literally invented and created the reality around her, so we create and shape reality around us with our thoughts, desires, plans. Not immediately, not as bright and colorful as it happens in the film, not so quickly, but gradually and invariably. In addition, the degree of influence of our thoughts depends on many factors. For example, in the story in question, the characters could not write an extra page in the book to visualize it because the page did not fit the style.

Nevertheless, thinking about something, imagining the necessary images in detail, we thereby approach the intended goal. Of course, what has been written should not be taken as a call to simply plunge into fantasies. On the example of the heroes of "Inkheart" it is clearly seen that their imagination complements, and does not replace, their activities. They show unprecedented tenacity and at the same time adherence to principles, thanks to which they emerge from history as winners.

A great example of perseverance and determination is demonstrated by the protagonist Moe. He searched for his wife for nine years, not forgetting to raise his daughter and give old books a new life, and all this time he traveled to cities and libraries around the world to find one single book story.

The importance of family

The film "Ink Heart" shows how important the family is for a person. For Mo, Maggie, Dust-Hand (one of the fairytale characters) and Teresa, family is what makes them move, makes them live and try to change this world for the better. An exception is Eleanor - unmarried, without children, she is too immersed in book stories and is now afraid of the present. Eleanor, recovering from fictional worlds, announces that she is leaving home: "All this is too real." The second exception is the writer, author of The Ink Heart. The same lonely, he asks Maggie to send him to a fairy tale, and the girl fulfills his request, albeit with a pain in her heart.

The fascination with fantasy worlds that replace the real world is nevertheless condemned in the film, despite the general broadcast love for books and fictional stories. At the same time, people who decided on this are shown rather unhappy from their loneliness. Dreaming about writing Maggie, adoring her loving parents, does not even think to disappear in book fantasies, knowing full well that book pleasure is good, but real life is more important.

Morality:

The film encourages readers to remember and love the book worlds anew, while gently and unobtrusively shows a clear border between love of fairy tales and escape from reality; the latter is discouraged. Also, using the example of the main characters, the picture demonstrates examples of true kindness and honesty and, most importantly, the image of a real family in which everyone is unconditionally loyal to each other and lives taking care of their loved ones.
