Video: TOP-5 Soviet armored vehicles, created for the sake of experiment

Often, the development of military equipment does not go beyond the prototype. However, the technologies of many experimental prototypes form the basis for the creation of new military equipment. It also happened with the prototypes of Soviet armored vehicles from our today's selection.
1. Laser complex 1K17 "Compression"
1K17 "Compression".
The Soviet self-propelled tank complex "Compression" was built in 1990 by the scientific center "Astrophysics". By and large, this is not even a tank, but a combat vehicle for countering the enemy's optical-electronic devices. Experimental tests began in 1991. The complex was recognized as effective and put into service.
However, it never came to mass production due to the difficult financial situation of the country after the collapse of the USSR. A second attempt at adoption was made in 2017, but also to no avail. To block enemy optics, a ruby solid-state laser was installed in the Compression complex. An artificial ruby crystal weighing 30 kg was specially grown for these purposes.
2. "Sanguine"
"Sanguine".
Another laser complex built in the Soviet Union in 1983. A distinctive feature of the Sanguine armored vehicle was the use of the Real Time System (SRV) and the technology of direct laser guidance without the use of side mirrors. According to the tactical and technical characteristics, the "Sanguine" could blind the enemy's optoelectronic devices for 10 minutes at a distance of over 10 kilometers. At a distance of up to 10 kilometers, irreversible destruction of enemy optical systems was guaranteed. Due to the high cost, the complex was never adopted for service.
3. "Object 187"
"Object 187".
Object 187 is a battle tank developed in 1986 by the Ural Design Bureau. The tank was created in parallel with the "Object 188" (the future T-90). The tank was armed with the latest 125-mm smoothbore gun developed in Sverdlovsk. Due to the increased power of the gun, a special braking system was used in the barrel to reduce rollback after a shot. According to Novate.ru, new projectiles with an Anker uranium core have been developed specifically for Object 187. Many technologies of the experimental tank were subsequently used on new Soviet and Russian production models. The very same "Object 187" is currently in a deplorable state in the sump of the museum in Kubinka.
4. "Object 292"
"Object 292".
By coincidence, the development of a heavy tank called "Object 292" also fell on the collapse of the Soviet Union. The design bureau of the Kirov plant, which was engaged in the creation of the tank, experienced a lack of funding. Nevertheless, at the end of 1990, the only prototype was ready. The "Object 292" had a powerful 152-mm rifled cannon, which, in terms of its combat characteristics, significantly exceeded the previous 125-mm cannon, while they were almost identical in size. In 1991, the tank was successfully tested at the Rzhev test site, but the Object 292 never entered mass production.
5. "Object 327"
"Object 327".
In 1976, the Soviet leadership decided to create a new self-propelled artillery unit with a high degree of automation. The development was entrusted to the design bureau of the Uraltransmash plant. "Object 327" better known as "Washer", was created for ten years. In terms of its technical characteristics, the self-propelled howitzer had no analogues in the world. The armored vehicle was developed according to an open scheme. The 152-mm rifled gun was installed on a special platform that looked like a washer.
The installation crew was housed in a special combat compartment, from where he could remotely control the main units of the howitzer. Despite the effectiveness of the gun, due to innovative technologies, the cost of the installation increased to colossal proportions, so they decided to abandon further development.

In the outbreak of the First World War, military doctors of many countries began to actively use Roentgen's invention. And if in the German army mobile X-ray devices remained on horse-drawn vehicles, then in the French army diagnostic equipment was placed on cars
Experimental all-terrain vehicles of the USSR, deprived of special attention
Even if we forget about the problem with the roads, then in the vastness of the Fatherland there will always be places where there are “certain problems” with the car's cross-country ability. In order to do at least something in such places, you have to use special transport - off-road trucks and even all-terrain vehicles. Very special attention was paid to the development of both those and others in the USSR
The Green Ghost phenomenon: the Wehrmacht against the Soviet armored train
The battles for Sevastopol were one of the most difficult and dramatic in the history of the Great Patriotic War. Both sides suffered colossal losses, and none of them thought to retreat. However, among other things, the Red Army had a force that the Wehrmacht feared like fire. We are talking about the "Green Ghost" - a Soviet armored train, which turned out to be one of the most formidable opponents of the German army
The first Soviet helicopter was created long before Sikorsky
There is a misconception that the first Soviet helicopter was invented by aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky in 1939, but this is not entirely true. The first functional model was the TsAGI 1-EA experimental apparatus of Alexei Cheremukhin, which made its first flight back in 1930. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the development was carried out in strict secrecy, no one knew about the helicopter for a long time
