Given the difficult ecological situation on the planet, architects and designers are also involved in the process of preserving the environment along with scientists. Recently, the Italian company Stefano Boeri Architetti presented a unique project for a city in Mexico called Smart Forest City, where the population is half the number of trees. At the same time, the settlement will be self-sufficient both in the production of its own food products and in the transformation of the energy of the sun, water and wind.

Architect Stefano Boeri from Milan, commissioned by the developer Grupo Karim, has provided a unique concept of the future Smart Forest City, which is planned to be built near the city of Cancun, Mexico.

According to the editors of Novate. Ru, the developer originally planned to build a huge shopping and entertainment center in Cancun, but nevertheless decided on an experiment and is now ready to use this money to build a smart city buried in greenery, which, according to all forecasts, will become a “pioneer” among eco -projects of a similar focus.

The Italian architect and his team from Stefano Boeri Architetti designed the infrastructure of the village so that the 557 hectare plot of land on which it will be located becomes a natural extension of the ecosystem. Just imagine that 130 thousand people live surrounded by trees and plants, and all the institutions and shops necessary for life are within walking distance, there are no scurrying cars, no public transport, no smoking factories.

All the energy needed to sustain the city dwellers is converted from natural sources: sun, water and wind. Well, to top it all off, this city will become a research base and every resident will have the opportunity to join the study of the problems of architecture sustainability, but at the same time, no one will forget about the organization of cultural and entertainment events.

“Indeed, efforts to design and build Smart Forest City can make our world a better place by significantly reducing the negative human impact on the environment, and possibly pioneer a new type of human settlement,” the press release said.

It is planned that 7.5 million plants will be planted on a rather small area of the eco-city, of which 260 thousand trees. To place this amount of vegetation in Smart Forest City, public parks and all empty roadsides, flower beds, squares, as well as balconies and even roofs of buildings will be involved.

“Smart Forest City in Cancun is a botanical garden in a modern city based on Mayan heritage and its connection to the sacred world of nature,” comments the author of the project Stefano Boeri. “This is a special ecosystem where nature and the urban environment are intertwined and exist as one organism.”

Interesting fact:Scientists have calculated that such a quantity of green spaces can absorb up to 116 thousand tons of carbon dioxide from 5.8 tons of hydrogen per year!

As the name suggests Smart Forest City, the entire infrastructure of the city will be connected to a specially developed system of sensors, which will transmit all information to the analytical center, where they will be collected and thoroughly analyzed. On the basis of these conclusions, proposals will be made to eliminate problems (if any), as well as to fully manage all the processes available for this system in the city.

“The analysis of the obtained data will be used to improve the management of all structures of the city, and hence the lives of its citizens,” the developers say. At the same time, the authors of the project assure that such total "tracking" will not affect the private life of citizens and that all information received will be processed with "full respect for the privacy of citizens."

This is not a simple visualization of an artist, but a calculated project to the smallest detail, and not only in urban planning and the implementation of the “smart city” system, but also in organizing a full-fledged life of citizens. In order to provide residents with food, the Stefano Boeri Architetti team turned to the German engineering company Transsolar in order to develop production facilities that could fully ensure the processing and storage of grown organic vegetables and fruits, meat and dairy products coming from livestock farms, etc..d.

For the smooth operation of all enterprises and systems for the city, power plants will be created that will convert the energy of the sun, water and wind into electricity. To provide water, both for domestic and economic needs, including for irrigation of land, it is planned to install a system for processing and purifying water.

Since they decided to build the "Smart Forest City" near the Caribbean Sea, its resources will also be allowed to enter. In addition to the fact that canals will be organized around the city, which will provide a cool place on hot days and an excellent resting place for the inhabitants of the settlement, they also plan to desalinate water for irrigation and cooling some life support systems.

They did not forget about the ways of moving around the city, despite the fact that the infrastructure of each district is planned to be made so that all the necessary facilities are within walking distance, but still there will be situations when the townspeople need to go to the other end of the city. To do this, the Milan-based urban and transport planning firm MIC (Mobility in Chain) was brought in, which developed the internal electrical and semi-automatic transport system. If, for example, a person needs to leave the Smart Forest City, then with the help of special public transport he will get to the outskirts of the city, where there will be cars familiar to all of us and already in his car he will go where he needs to.

Recently, the concepts of "smart" eco-houses and eco-settlements have begun to appear more and more often, which in the near future we will still be able to see with our own eyes. And if to build an entire city is a rather costly and lengthy event, then the construction of a small number of houses is more realistic plans.
