In the Dnepropetrovsk school № 25, the chemistry teacher together with the students decided to conduct an unusual experiment with the students' favorite food - chips and crackers. Twelve rodents were selected as test subjects. They were divided into four groups: some were fed with chips, the second - with crackers, the third was filled with the flavor enhancer monosodium glutamate (E621), which manufacturers add to sausages and fast food, and the fourth were fed with grains, vegetables and fruits. "When you tell children that chips are unhealthy, they still eat them," says Tatiana Deynega, a teacher of chemistry and health fundamentals.

According to Tatiana Deynega, the rats, which were fed with crackers, began to die one after another on the twentieth day. Before they died, they became blind and bald. Later, an examination showed that the animals died from cirrhosis of the liver, a serious disorder of digestion and the retina of the eye.

“The liver of these animals became yellowish. This means that its cells began to fill with fat droplets and die,” explained Valentin Efimov, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences. Those rats who ate crackers were not in the best condition either. Rodents from the third group, eating food flavored with monosodium glutamate, became aggressive and dependent. And only those who ate grain and vegetables felt great. After the experiment, the students reported that they would never eat chips and crackers again. “I really feel sorry for the rats, but the food we fed them is also used by people, and I feel sorry for people even more,” said schoolgirl Maria Kashirina.
