Four years, seven languages: a nationwide polyglot girl visits RT
4-year-old Muscovite Bella Devyatkina suddenly became famous throughout Russia after participating in the TV show "Amazing People", captivating the audience with her knowledge of seven languages. The girl speaks good Russian, speaks English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic.
RT staff spoke to Bella.
It all started with the idea of teaching my daughter to speak English fluently. Then no one imagined that Bella had amazing ability to learn languages, said the mother of the polyglot girl Yulia Devyatkina in an interview with RT.
“But when we started practicing, we quickly saw the result of the child. By the age of one, she already understood both Russian and English speech equally well. Then I decided to add French to our classes, because I know this language myself,”said Yulia. According to her, the girl showed an extraordinary interest in the lessons. Still unable to walk, she “jumped for joy in the crib” when her mother spoke to her in French.
Bella now spends more than six hours daily in advanced language learning. From ten in the morning to one in the afternoon and from five in the evening to eight, the girl studies with foreign teachers. Classes are held in a playful way, emphasizes Julia. “The child does not sit at the desk, they walk with him, play hide and seek, dolls, he draws, sculpts. He does everything that ordinary children do, only with communication in different languages,”she notes.
Bella also attends a drama club in English, attends drawing courses in French and learns figure skating with a coach from Germany.
RT invited the prodigy girl to a television studio, where employees of different editions talked to her in their native languages. The details of the conversation are in our video.
