The newest American stealth destroyer Zumwalt, declared as "the pride of the US Navy", has completely lost its combat effectiveness and mobility as a result of a breakdown during its passage through the Panama Canal, Stern reports.

Meanwhile, the middle-aged Russian aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov", as if nothing had happened, continues the combat operation - despite the black smoke it emits, social networks are ironic.

The American destroyer Zumwalt was to become "the pride of the American fleet": it cannot be spotted on the radar, it is equipped with long-range and ultra-precise cannons. “However, the 'king of the seas' has become a defenseless emergency ship,” writes Stern journalist Gernot Cramper.

As it became known, the breakdown of the Zumwalt occurred when the ship entered the Panama Canal. The vessel was unable to continue its route and was towed away. The causes of the accident are called malfunctions in the heat exchanger of the ship's installation, which supplies electricity to the entire ship. Thus, Zumwalt was not only immobilized, but also completely incapable of combat, since its radar and weapons system were also de-energized. According to the representative of the US Third Fleet Ryan Perry, the destroyer will remain in Panama at the Rodman naval base indefinitely.

“For a $ 5 billion ship, the breakdown was sobering and yet another link in a bleak chain of events,” says Crump. As a result of increased costs and delays, the Zumwalt destroyer program was severely curtailed, and of the 32 planned ships, only three were built. A few weeks ago, it also became known that the alleged weapons would not be installed on the Zumwalt. Until a cheaper replacement is found, the Zumwalt is practically incapable of combat.

Internet users have already ironically compared the American destroyer with the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. During its use in the Syrian conflict, "Admiral Kuznetsov" blew thick smoke, which was probably due to problems with fuel. Nevertheless, the aircraft carrier continued its mission, sums up the author of Stern.
