Doctor about a healthy lifestyle:

- To say that it is possible to make a nation healthy at once is to be cunning. It is impossible to make absolutely healthy a person who smokes for 40 years. You can only try to prolong his life. But we can teach a generation that is not yet burdened with bad habits to live meaningfully. And it's not that hard. Our experience shows that one person who has been turned on the path of a healthy life is actually not one person, it is 5-6 people whom he will force to stop smoking, drink, open the windows … After all, an unhealthy lifestyle is the lot of poorly educated people. - When the Germans set themselves the goal of improving the nation 35 years ago, all the conditions were created for this: a lot of treadmills in various institutions, in parks - special jogging trails, swimming pools, artificial lakes, etc. There is a mood for a healthy lifestyle persists to this day! About 3 years ago, I was visiting a comrade in Germany, I got up at 7 in the morning (fortunately, I could sleep) and saw with my own eyes how Germans with invariable smiles on their faces ran in the morning: fat, thin, young, elderly - everything. This is how their day begins. Perhaps this is also why life expectancy there is longer than ours.

We stopped running altogether, stopped walking … We don't have the conditions for this! I live on Leninsky Prospekt, I have always loved to walk, walk … I walked from Leninsky Prospekt to Gagarin Square. It took about an hour back and forth. And I couldn't imagine a better sport! Now try to walk along Leninsky Prospekt - there are cars in 8 rows, secondly, smog, smoke, and thirdly - in our time it is physically unsafe.

And it’s impossible to even think about making bike paths somewhere!

When we ran a competition to promote healthy lifestyles for a presidential grant, we received 1600 projects! Our people have a lot of ideas and the understanding that a healthy lifestyle is what we need now. But for some reason, when it comes to the daily observance of simple rules, many are unable to resist the temptation to be lazy, drink and eat whatever …

Ex-smoker about smoking:

- I quit smoking when I already had 20 years of experience as a smoker. And he did it at once.

And it was pure chance that prompted me to do this. I was a young professor, smoked like a steam locomotive, and a patient came to me for a consultation. I talked to him, he thanked me and said: “Doctor, when I was walking to you, I went to the toilet, brushed my teeth so that I wouldn’t puff tobacco from me.. And you have here…. the smoke turns out to be a pillar! " I answered him: "Don't take an example from me!"

And this incident hit my mind so hard that it was after it that I decided to quit smoking. And now I tell all my doctors: how can you smoke, knowing full well that this is the path to heart attack, hypertension, lung cancer, etc.?..

Diet Scientist:

- In September last year, I stopped eating chocolate, which I consumed in huge quantities: I came from the operating room, ate a bar of dark chocolate and worked for another 5-6 hours. It was a kind of doping. But over time, I realized that, probably, this would not lead to good, and went on a diet of American astronauts, which excludes sugar, bread, salt. I have lost 9 kilograms, and I feel much more comfortable than before, while my appetite is still brutal! Although my family swears, it seems to me that this kind of food is good for me.

In the morning, as a rule, I eat cottage cheese, I come from the operating room - light yogurt or a chicken egg (which my wife cooked and carefully put into my briefcase). And at home - already a full-fledged dinner.

About myself:

- I come in this world in only one role: in the role of a cardiac surgeon. Sometimes it takes me up to 16 hours a day. Everything else stems from this: my scientific work, social activities … Once I just felt that I had to say something to this world, because I think that much needs to be changed in it. Probably, I can hardly do something global in this regard. But get involved in the process … why not?

I'm lucky. Just when such thoughts began to come to me, a group of activists began to create the "League for the Health of the Nation" (I was not there yet). They asked me to sign an appeal to the nation. And then the founding congress took place, and, unexpectedly for myself, I was elected president of this organization.

How it developed is a whole story. In the beginning, it was assumed that the "League" will have several people who will support it. But in the end, of course, no one began to support her. Therefore, at first it was all generally kept on one enthusiasm. But nevertheless, we gradually achieved that it acquired a certain weight, influence. And now, I think, together we will be able to gradually change the consciousness of people for whom a "healthy lifestyle" is an empty phrase.

Optimist about relaxation:

- There are many ways to relax in addition to those that are harmful to health.

I knew the father of one of my coworkers, a famous mathematician: he lived to be 93 years old. He danced with his wife almost until his death. And they enjoyed it immensely. I think this hobby played a key role in the fact that he lived such a long, happy life.

If a person has no other hobbies besides smoking and drinking, then he is worthless. And when they are, then the need for harmful methods of relaxation disappears by itself. Here's a simple recipe for breaking bad habits: Get into good habits.

There are beautiful women, men, classical literature, sports, music … - the whole world is filled with colors and content that you see in a completely different way when free from harmful addictions. These colors and content are the best incentive to start living right!
