Those who were born in the USSR remember the swift silhouette of these beautiful and highly functional vessels. "Rockets" were very popular in the Land of the Soviets - one of the many really successful finds of talented engineers. Now this unique hydrofoil boat can only be seen abroad.

The streamlined passenger boats were equipped with hydrofoils. The hull of the "Rocket" rose above the water level, which significantly reduced drag. This allowed the ship to develop an impressive (even by modern standards) 150 km / h.

The concept of the hydrofoil was invented by the Soviet inventor Rostislav Alekseev. Almost three thousand ships left the shipyards of the Soviet Union under his patronage. Modifications to the original boat received names inspired by the Soviet space era: Sputnik, Comet, Meteor and dozens of others.

The economic collapse of the USSR put an end to this and many other promising projects. Unique ships were taken out of service and sent to rust in the cemeteries of forgotten ships. One of these "burials" is located not far from Perm, in the forest.

Some of the "Rockets" were still saved. The country of the Soviets supplied these boats to Vietnam under the Voshkod label. They still run the daily route between Cat Ba Island and Haiphong City.

Others glide along the rivers of Canada, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Netherlands, Thailand and Turkey. And for the majority of Russians, the hydrofoil ship remained only a happy memory from distant childhood - the "Rockets" were actively used in the resorts of the USSR.

The greatest demand for a ship plying on the Sevastopol-Yalta-Sevastopol route was used by tickets at the "Standard" tariff: about 69% of passengers became their owners. Another 18% preferred the Comfort tariff, 9% preferred the Child tariff, and 3% chose the Family tariff. At the same time, the overwhelming majority of passengers - 95% - purchased tickets through the ticket office, and the remaining 5% used the services of the website and mobile application.

In unfavorable weather conditions, when the wave height reached 2.5 m and more, and the wind speed was 15-17 m / s with gusts up to 20 m / s, flights were canceled. For the entire navigation period, 38 such cases were recorded out of the planned 244 flights. In this situation, the money for tickets was returned to passengers in full.

“The results of the transportation of Kometa show a very high demand for this type of transport among guests and residents of the peninsula. Taking into account the average load of 97% for two months of navigation, we can say that there were practically no vacant seats on each of the 206 flights performed,”said Alexei Sorokin, General Director of Sea High-Speed Passenger Transportation LLC.

Recall that the company was established on October 9, 2017 to organize high-speed sea passenger transportations on the Kometa ship in the Azov-Black Sea basin. The sole founder of the company is the Vympel Shipyard, which is part of the Kalashnikov concern.
