The village of Bolshoy Kunaley in Buryatia received the status of "The most beautiful village in Russia". The village is famous for its folk choir representing the folklore of the Trans-Baikal Old Believers. The status of “the most beautiful village” in Buryatia was previously assigned to the village of Desyatnikovo. As "My Planet" wrote, the first to be awarded this title was the village of Vyatskoye. The second was Kinerma in Karelia. After the status was assigned, so many tourists began to come to this village that the locals even asked for protection from them. And in the Russian Arctic, the honorary title was given to Kizhma.
VILLAGE OF BOLSHOI KUNALY
The village of Bolshoi Kunalei, located in the Tarbagatai region of the Republic of Buryatia, was founded in the late 1730s by Russian old-timers. In 1765, 61 families of resettled Old Believers-Semeiski, numbering 205 people, arrived in Bolshaya Kunalei. At the beginning of the 20th century, about 5,000 people lived in the village, living in 782 yards and mainly engaged in arable farming. At that time, there were 27 water mills and 17 smithies in Bolshoi Kunaley. A steam roller mill was built in the 1920s. Currently, the population of Bolshoi Kunalei is about 1000 people.
On the long, straight, well-groomed streets of the village, solid, beautifully painted houses, which belong to the Kunale people, have been rebuilt. Each house is necessarily decorated with carved platbands, the house itself and the gate are decorated with decorative elements, it is customary to paint buildings with multi-colored paints, which not only helps to keep the house in good condition for many years, but also pleases the eye, creates a special holiday mood. Each estate has a lot of green spaces, flowers, which are carefully looked after by the owners. The streets of the village are clean and tidy, the villagers keep order.
