Video: The transition to family education and is it possible to refuse school attendance
2024 Author: Seth Attwood | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-16 15:55
The Ministry of Education has developed a project that includes a section on the transition to family education.
According to the document published on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts, the parents or legal representatives of the child can decide on homeschooling, taking into account the student's opinion and the recommendations of the psychological, medical and pedagogical commission.
"Education in the form of family education and self-education is carried out with the right to further pass the intermediate and state final certification in educational organizations", - is specified in the explanatory note.
The authors of the project also prescribed an algorithm for the transition to family education with a list of documents that must be obtained by parents or guardians and submitted to the school and municipal authorities.
It is noted that a child who has switched to home schooling can return to school at any time.
Video report - Is it possible in Russia to refuse to attend school
My son studied at home for two years: 5th and 6th grade. He passed the certification and does not intend to return to school. This text describes the personal experiences of our family and is intended for people who are also interested in family education.
Terminology
Homeschooling and family education should not be confused. Home schooling is only used for health reasons. Then the school is engaged in the education of the child. Teachers come to his home, teach them themselves, check them themselves, issue certificates themselves.
Family education is a voluntary transfer of responsibility for the education of a child from school to parents. In this case, the school only conducts certification, but does not participate in the educational process in any way. For the transition to family education, no reason is needed other than the desire of the parents.
Decision-making
First, I told my relatives that I wanted to transfer my son to family education. Dad, grandmothers and grandfathers took this news normally and agreed to help as much as possible. Then we had the most important serious conversation with the child. I explained to him that there is an opportunity not to go to school, that this opportunity will require a lot of strength and determination from us, that I will not be able to cope with it alone and the main burden will fall on him. “Are you sure you can handle it? Even when it's hard? Are you ready to work honestly every weekday and not take time off? And when he replied that he was ready and would cope, the decision was made.
Bureaucracy and beginning
My Sashka went to elementary school, where there were only four classes, after which the children graduated and entered other educational institutions. So, after graduation we decided not to go to school again. I called a middle school near my home and made an appointment with the principal. At this meeting, I said that I want to enroll my son in school and immediately switch to family education. The director gave me the necessary application forms (for admission and transfer to CO), I filled them out. We agreed that the student will take the certification once a year (the school director and parents choose the frequency of examinations arbitrarily), met the head teacher, who solved organizational issues for us, and that's it. Here we are officially on family education. After that, I still had to take the application to the Department of Education, but it is of a purely notification nature. The department told me about the rights and opportunities of my son and offered to seek help if any problems arise.
Financial compensation
The state spends a certain amount on the education of each child. If the child is in family education, the school does not receive this money, but the parents should receive it. Here, unfortunately, my experience will not be useful. Something vague is written in modern laws on compensation, it is necessary to separately resolve the issue with the department. And I just didn't do it. We forgave the state money and focused on our studies.
Clarification of the program
There are no clear lists of what knowledge, skills and abilities a student should have by the end of the year. The programs of different teachers in different schools are also different. Therefore, it is necessary to decide on the teachers who will conduct the certification at the beginning of the year. A child in family education has the right to use the school library. We took the textbooks and asked the teachers if we would have enough knowledge from the books or if we needed additional sources. Thus, we have our own updated list of topics that need to be studied in a year.
Training
I made a calendar for the school year. We have set ourselves the days off for Sundays and Mondays. The autumn and winter holidays coincided with the school ones, and the spring ones had to be postponed, since the exams had to be passed at the end of April. The total number of all topics in all subjects was divided by the number of working days and it turned out that, on average, we had to go through 2 new topics in one day. We were guided by this in the future. On some days they passed more (sometimes up to 8 topics), on some they spent all the time just to consolidate what they had passed. In addition, I gave the child the right to three absenteeism - he could refuse to study any day, having arranged for himself a day off, but no more than three times a year.
Schedule
All subjects were divided into two groups. The first group included: mathematics, Russian, English and technology. These are the subjects where the student needs to acquire not only knowledge, but also skills. All other disciplines were included in the second group. The schedule for each group was compiled differently. The first two weeks studied only mathematics and only in theory. Then I prepared practical assignments based on the material covered for each day. They did the same with the Russian language. Then the child himself chose which subject to study next. Thus, it turned out that every day Sasha had to go through theory on some subject from the second group and solve practical tasks on a subject from the first group. These are two big lessons a day - one theoretical, the other practical.
Learning process
We take a textbook and read it aloud, sometimes I read it, sometimes it. Then the reader retells the topic in his own words so that the essence of what he read becomes clear. If additional questions arise in the process, we find answers to them on the Internet. Next, we define the main thoughts and facts that should be outlined. The first few months I told my son how and what to write down, then he already learned to decide it himself. Depending on the subject, the form of note-taking was chosen - somewhere they used a notebook, somewhere a notebook, somewhere separate cardboard cards
We turn on a video lesson (there are many of them on the Internet), watch, discuss, take notes
I take questions from the textbook (those at the end of paragraphs) or final test questions. I give these questions to the child, and he himself looks for answers to them on the Internet. Then he tells me in detail everything he has learned. Summaries
Consolidation of the passed
Mathematics and the Russian language were consolidated every day with the help of practical tasks. For other subjects, I gave my son a small test at the end of the week. Sometimes, instead of the control, they simply ran through the textbook, dwelling on the key facts and once again saying them aloud.
Tutors and Assistants
We only had to resort to outside help in learning English. The subject is specific, here you need pronunciation, listening, conversation. In the fifth grade, these were classes with a tutor, in the sixth grade - attending courses. In addition, I delegated some of the responsibilities for teaching the child to other relatives. Dad was engaged in technology and physical education with him, grandmother was in the Russian language.
Schedule
No schedule needed. I work as a freelancer, my son is studying freelancing, so we don't have any bosses and clear deadlines. The child wakes up without an alarm clock, eats breakfast, lounges and decides for himself when he is ready to start school. Of course, all the entertainment is available to him only after the day's curriculum is completed. Where to start - with theory in some subjects or practice in others - he also chooses. In the learning process, breaks of any length are allowed at the request of the student. During lessons, you can drink tea, chew cookies, throw your legs over your head - whatever. This is very cool and, according to my observations, does not interfere with my studies at all, but only helps.
Exams
One month before the exams, we ask the school to arrange for us to consult with the teachers. They take no more than 15 minutes each. At the consultation, the teacher tells in what form the exam will take place, which topics should be emphasized. The assessment that the child will receive during the certification will in no way reflect his real knowledge. Now I know for sure. Therefore, my son is sent to exams with one goal - to pass. These exams are much more difficult than just getting grades for a year in face-to-face training, you can't cheat or make eyes. You really need to know the program. But this, too, should not be at all afraid of. If the exam fails, a retake is scheduled, for which you can calmly prepare, already having enough time and a clear understanding of the teacher's requirements.
Time and money
It took us 2-3 hours to study every day. I spent about half an hour a week on scheduling and practice assignments. Money is being saved in incredible amounts despite the tutoring fees. I didn't buy notebooks, albums, pens and pencils at all - for two years we had enough of what remained unused in elementary school. A pencil case, a briefcase, a shift, shirts, trousers, jackets, vests - we don't need all this now, and it costs a lot of money. We make do with comfortable jeans and T-shirts. And, of course, we didn't have to hand over anything for curtains, security, gifts for teachers and all the other joys of school life.

How family and school become a neurotic factory
During their studies in elementary school, the assessment of their personality is rapidly declining in children. If in the first grade 43.7% of children have high self-esteem, then by the 4th grade the number of self-confident falls to 24.2%. The number of students with low self-esteem, on the contrary, increases from 30.2 to 36.6%. What's happening?
