In the old days, when the methods of combating crime had not yet settled down, amazing devices, sometimes worthy of the best traditions of Bond, entered the armament of police officers from different countries.
For instance…
1. FIRING VEST (1929)
The vest is equipped with a mini-machine gun, which is triggered by pulling on the ropes that connect it to the fingers of the guardian of the law. Let's say you are a police officer and a situation has arisen where a criminal takes you by surprise. Of course, the first thing he does is tell you to put your hands up.
You raise your arms higher, the ropes under your clothes are pulled and … a whole machine-gun burst falls right from your chest on the astonished bandit.
2. GRAVER HATCH (1919)
The hatch was located directly in front of the bank's cashier window. In the event of a robbery, all the cashier had to do was press a special lever in the floor with his foot. The hatch opened, and the robber fell into a special room, where he waited for the police to arrive. This is if the cashier is kind. Because for loyalty to the right hand of the bank employee there was also a valve, by unscrewing which it was possible to let water into a trap with a particularly dangerous criminal. And then the police had much less work.
3. PISTOL WITH BUILT-IN CAMERA (1934)
This device was invented for the muzz police. If it is not possible to shoot the criminal and he escapes, then at least at least a fresh photograph of him remains. The camera is automatically triggered when the policeman pulls the trigger.
4. MOTORIZER (1922, 1959)
A motorcycle with a built-in barrel, capable of spewing both conventional projectiles and shot, tried to be put into service with the American law enforcement forces twice. But the idea never caught on - apparently, it is not very convenient to shoot while maneuvering in the stream of cars. And then, how can you leave such a transport unattended when it’s time to stop by for a meal of traditional donuts with coffee.
5. ELECTRIC GLOVE (1935)
This invention of the Cuban Sirlio Diaz, was supposed to pacify the street protestants. A person who entered into a fight with a servant of the law in such a glove received an electrical discharge of 1,500 volts. One light touch was enough to calm any disaffected person.
6. HELMETS WITH FLASHING GLASSES (1928, 1940)
Not every police officer in the first half of the twentieth century had a car. And nevertheless, even then flashing lights became fashionable - at least for a start, and in such a "walking" version.
7. ARMOR A-LA "MEDIEVAL KNIGHT" (1938)
This Parisian project of the late 1930s is difficult to take seriously. It seems that this armor is glued together with superglue in the kitchen of the same defender of law and order who did not play enough in childhood.
8. ROOM OF TRUTH (1934)
A long time ago, when the scheme with a good and a bad investigator had not yet been worked out, criminologists in New York created a project called "The Room of Truth." It was a tiny room, all the walls of which were covered with mirrors. Wherever the suspect looked, he saw endless reflections of his guilty face. The light source placed above the head during interrogation could be adjusted so that the face of the interrogated looked even more unhappy and exhausted. After a couple of hours of interrogation, any suspect in the room would begin to repent.
9. TEAR GAS FOR ANY TASTE! (1926-1932)
In the late 1920s and early 1930s, tear gas was a great honor. Whatever modifications of it were invented, they were disguised under whatever. Particularly popular was the model worn on the wrist and powered by a ring on the finger. It is enough to bend your wrist in a special way and a cloud of pure suffering envelops your interlocutor.
And this is a gas pistol disguised as an ordinary fountain pen. Notice with what familiar elegance the girl releases a stream of gas. A second ago, he stood with the barrel of a pistol pointed at her, and now he is crying like a child.
