This chemical preservative is so dangerous that just five grams can kill a person. But don't panic, the FDA says the substance is generally safe.

4. Cysteine-L. Fast food restaurants use cysteine-L - an amino acid derived from human hair, duck feathers and pork bristles - to flavor meats, soften breads and baked goods. Also, this amino acid shortens the baking time in mass production of bread. Cysteine-L is mainly produced in China by dissolving hair or feathers in acid and then distributed around the world as a bread softener.
