But many investors who showed great interest in the Kuban solar batteries (among them the Shell concern, one of the world leaders in the energy sector), did not realize that Dmitry had to fly to the forum of innovators literally from the courtroom.

By the way, the Prikubanskiy District Court of Krasnodar sentenced Lopatin to three years probation for "attempting to illegally purchase psychotropic substances on a large scale without the purpose of selling them." It was not possible to prove the fact of smuggling of psychotropic substances in court. The state prosecution demanded 11 years in prison for the Kuban "Kulibin".

Just a few days ago, the regional prosecutor's office considered the verdict "too lenient" and appealed it on appeal.

“We do not agree with the removal of smuggling charges against Lopatin and the imposition of a suspended sentence,” says Anton Lopatin, senior assistant to the Krasnodar Territory prosecutor for interaction with the media. - In our opinion, his actions fall under Art. 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their precursors or analogues). Of course, we took into account that the defendant is a young scientist whose inventions are of interest to investors.

Dmitry Lopatin, a postgraduate graduate of the Department of Radiophysics and Nanotechnology, Kuban State University, is already the author of three patents, a semi-finalist and co-author of the Zvorykin Prize, winner of the Energy of the Future and Russia Power contests. And three years ago he became a laureate of the Energy of Youth 2012 prize of the Global Energy Foundation, which is considered the Russian equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

The project, which was popular at the French exhibition, went on for three years. The novelty of the energy-intensive devices of the Kuban innovator is that instead of silicon, perovskite is used, a rather rare organometallic element. And the three-dimensional surface allows the solar battery to work effectively even at sunset, in cloudy weather and in fog. In addition, a technology has been developed for printing such gizmos on a printer. And most importantly, the cost of the product is five times lower than its foreign counterparts.

“Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with Lopatin’s developments,” says Vladimir Bitkov, chief designer for solar batteries at the Saturn public joint-stock company, “but I can assume that this is about ground-based use of solar batteries. We are developing for the space industry. Yes, projects are now being developed to make solar panels as cheap as possible. However, in most cases, such structures still have a low efficiency.

According to Dmitry Lopatin, innovators find it uncomfortable to live in their native country. “In Europe, many things are also prohibited, but there, for a simple order, the inventor will not be handcuffed,” the scientist complains. The whole thing is due to the unfortunate liter of gamma-butyrolactone solvent, which the Krasnodar resident ordered by mail from China. He did not know that according to recent Russian laws, this substance was classified as psychotropic. "One of the substances in the composition of solar cells (lead iodide) dissolves only in three solvents, including gamma-butyrolactone," Lopatin clarifies.- We prepared "solar ink" for the printer on the basis of other substances, but they did not suit us in terms of viscosity and temperature conditions."

“Any Russian can get into such a situation,” says lawyer Nikolai Ostroukh. - I ordered from abroad, for example, a liquid for removing nail polish, and it contains a similar banned psychotropic substance. And formally it may turn out that you have moved a psychotropic substance to Russia, and this is already from the position of accusing smuggling. And the court may not pay attention to the lack of intent.

Lopatin proved his innocence with a lie detector. But the results were not taken into account at the preliminary investigation stage. Although we must pay tribute to the court, which acquitted the young scientist on the episode of charges related to smuggling.

It is difficult to say whether the Kuban inventor will implement his development on the territory of Russia. But he registered the rights to this invention on the territory of the Russian Federation. When the issue was already being typeset, the media reported on another invention of Lopatin. He developed a prototype of a wireless charger that can track the battery of a mobile phone in space and direct a special beam at it. The technology will allow a person to think less about the battery charge level - the system will automatically search for and charge batteries. Such amazing devices can be installed, for example, in waiting rooms of train stations and airports.
