My LJ friend vaduhan_08 shared a link to another ring-shaped object. What's this? An asteroid impact crater? An ancient salt mine or something? Let's see the available photos and facts.

This facility, Boevaya Gora, is located in the Sol-Iletsky district of the Orenburg region. Link to the map. Coordinates: 51 ° 16 '24.46 "N 54 ° 54' 46.78" E
Nearby is the village of the same name. The mountain got its name during the civil war, January 19 - 20, 1919, here the last major battles for the capture of Orenburg take place, between the troops of General Dutov and the Turkestan army of the Reds. In honor of these events, the mountain is renamed Battle Mountain. Subsequently, in 1967, the village also received the name Boevaya Gora.
From the air at this angle, the ring shape is not so convincing.

Steppe landscape near the mountain
The diameter of the ring is just over 750 meters. And the slopes are not so steep. Although their height in some areas reaches about 70 meters. In some publications, it is written that once there was a failure of the central part of the mountain. All due to the fact that groundwater allegedly washed away the gypsum top of the mountain, and it collapsed into underground voids. Those. karst sinkhole version
There are two lakes inside the ring. One is overgrown, the other with a clear water surface.
About the depth of the lake. On the Internet, there is a report on the first industrial practice in the 4th year of the Geological Faculty of Saratov State University. Authors of the report are E. Mamzurin and A. Butyrin. The leader of the expedition was Doctor G. M. Sciences V. P. Tverdokhlebov. In this report, there is a mention of the following character: "The lake has an irregularly rounded shape, the depth of the lake in the central part is more than 25 m (according to V. P. Tverdokhlebov's measurements."

Some of the slopes are bare. There is no soil or vegetation on them. Judging by the color, it has a high lime content. On such soils, whether something will grow.
Geologically, it's all fresh
On the mountain, there are a lot of pipes sticking out of the ground. The pipes were left by geologists back in 1970, when they examined the mountain for the presence of salt deposits underground.
