My thoughts and thoughts about Satanism from the point of view of a psychologist and psychotherapist.

The word "Satanists" is usually perceived by many people in a purely negative sense. In their minds, images of something dark, bloody, violent and fanatical-religious are born. And there is. Satanists worship the prince of darkness - Satan. During the rituals of worship, various ritual objects are used, Christian prayers are read in reverse (from right to left), the anti-bible or the works of demonological writers who welcome the satonophile mood. Satanists usually dress in all black, their clothes are sado-masochistic. On the chest there is an inverted cross, or a pentagram associated with the Anti-Christ, or the Goat (but not with the scapegoat!). Often in the unisex style, black cosmetics are used on the face, dark nail polish, frightening accessories with chains, spikes, horns. That there is only one black tattoo (fill) of the sclera of the eyes!

The Church of Satan has already been registered in Ukraine. The website of the community solemnly states that "on June 6, 2014, the first religious community in Ukraine and in the entire post-Soviet space was registered in Ukraine with the State Registration Service of Ukraine, openly and legally, relying on the Constitution of Ukraine, professing devil worship." "Full and official name of the religious organization" Religiyna community "Bozhichi" (Church of Satan). The largest part of the representatives of Satanists, who constitute, as it were, the basis of the giant pyramid, are demonstratively oriented towards the outside world. They try to make a shocking impression on others with their unusual and colorful appearance. There are similar trends in other trends - hippies, punks, metalheads, anarchists and other "ists". Apparently, we are talking about the desire for self-realization and self-actualization. In the psyche of these people, the problem of loneliness, dislike, vulnerability, resentment, disappointment, bitterness, feelings of guilt and aggression should be the most acute. They begin to draw vitality from the rough and easily accessible sources that abound in modern society - violence, fear, cruelty, hatred, self-centeredness, lust, greed, stubbornness, indifference, narcissism, vanity, laziness, irresponsibility, uncompromising and self-aggrandizement through self-esteem.

Of course, this first category of budding Satanists absorbs rough energy like a sponge, mostly unconsciously, reflectively and mechanically. After a period of psychic "feeding" comes a period of realization - demonstrating oneself to the world. Plus, there is an important element of communication and rapprochement with their own kind: dulling the feeling of loneliness, receiving mutual pleasures (sex, drugs, rock and roll) and building life plans and prospects. In general, I represent this category as a black painted group striving for self-improvement. By the way, this process is better described not as “becoming”, but as an attempt “not to fall”, in which there is a big difference.

The second category stands higher above the base of the pyramid, and occupies a smaller part in comparison with it. These people have already realized their personality traits and structures corresponding to darkness and everything dark, and have tested their action on life experience. They are distrustful, aggressive, closed, prone to sadomasochistic tendencies, insensitive to the pain of others, vulnerable, do not have holistic views of life, less dependent on the opinions of others (not Satanists) than the first category, vindictive, vain and often intellectually developed. They are able to unite representatives of the first category, and strengthen their personal tendencies, structuring them around themselves. Representatives of the second category perform rituals with a more or less conscious feeling (most often this is revenge to the world and narcissism). But representatives of both the first and the second categories are most often unable to sacrifice for the sake of the cult of Satan, either their own lives or the lives of those around them. In an extreme situation, representatives of the second category can only become accomplices of a bloody ritual and even murder. Their tribute to Satan is personal active participation in the life of a satanic society, material gifts and submission to the hierarchical structure (more or less conscious).

Category "three" includes even fewer people than category "two". In fact, there are only a few of these people. Satanists of the third category are the chosen ones among their entourage, indisputable and almost absolute authorities, the satanic elite. They feel their high position of choice and revel in it. According to their psychological characteristics, these people, as they say, have consciously embarked on the path of darkness and dehumanization, killing their consciences. They totally adore the cult of the Devil in both soul and body, and are ready for any sacrifice in order to achieve a fanatical sado-masochistic orgasm.

As a psychotherapist, the moment of choosing a sacrifice and bringing it to the sacrifice to Satan is burning for me. The choice of the victim is consciously carried out by the leader from the "three" category. The future victim, as it were, moves from the base of the pyramid up to its top. In other words, people from the "one" and "two" categories form specific conditions in which the future victim begins to self-identify himself (various provocations of the victim and his active involvement in the life of the system).

An important and necessary element that makes a victim a victim is his psychological purity or psychological innocence. This is the victim's belief that good will necessarily triumph over evil, naivety, gullibility, boundless trust in authority, amorousness and fascination with their own enthusiastic dreams, little life experience, poorly developed intuition and self-preservation instinct, stubbornness and inflexibility in personal life positions. In some cults, the condition of the victim's physical innocence appears, but you and I understand that the psychological innocence of the victim is incomparably more important for the maniac Satanist.

Erich Fromm wrote excellently about necrophilic attitudes in the personality of people. He argued that the love of a necrophile-maniac for a victim cannot be expressed in a natural way, but manifests itself in a perverse, peculiar way. Killing the victim, shedding its blood, even physically eating it, the necrophiliac maniac shows an ecstatic and base feeling of perverted love to the victim. How can you not recall the shocking release of the talk show Let They Say "Goth Back" dated 2010-27-04, which tells how the St. Petersburg Satanists-Goths killed and partially ate (fried with potatoes and onions) their friend Karina Buduchian!

Therefore, a real Satanist is either suicidal (which is rare) or a murderer (which is much more common). Physical ritual killing does not always happen. In the vast majority of cases, a ritual simulation of the murder of a mentally / physically innocent victim is performed. In the cosmogonic sense, darkness, absorbing the light of an innocent victim, becomes a little brighter. Therefore, the darkness that consumes light also tends to the fundamental and primary light. This proves that darkness is always secondary to light, and that darkness as such does not exist at all, since darkness is the absence of light. And the state of being in the form of absence is nonsense, that is, an illusion. Absolute darkness cannot exist at all. Its existence is possible only if there is at least a grain of light in it. Therefore, a maniac, killing a victim, thereby saves himself from total physical and mental decay and blackout.

A special aspect is the state of the victim when she is not completely mentally innocent, but only half. This means that in the psyche of the victim, as it were, 50% light and 50% darkness. Such a potential victim is bound to face the need to make a fateful choice: either to take the side of the world, or to finally fall into darkness (finally, it does not mean forever).

Such a potential victim, of course, will enter the structure of Satanists, but at the same time it will be tormented by inner fears and doubts. She will fear Satanists, and at the same time idolize their leader. It will be very difficult for her to retreat in time when she realizes the danger she is putting herself in. Perhaps, realizing the danger of being consumed by darkness, she wants to escape, and she will succeed. But most likely, the victim realizes the depth of his delusions already at the slaughter, dying and bleeding.

A striking example of such a plot is the Polish film "Quo Vadis", in which, in the secondary line of the narrative, it is told about a commoner who got close to Nero. This hero was cunning and greedy, but he was mentally weak, that is, he did not have natural bloodthirstiness and cruelty. Seeing all the horrors of the "Gardens of Eden" of the imperial court, he was frightened and regretted that he had sold his soul to the devil for luxury. Subsequently, our hero ended up in a dungeon, where the servants of Nero cut out his tongue for his devotion to the Idea and Faith. He was forced to accept a martyrdom.

At the junctions between the levels of the pyramid "one" and "two", "two" and "three", there are zones of uncertainty. I call them that because in these zones there is a stage-by-stage centering of a person (in this case, a Satanist). That is, it is determined to what extent it is ready or not ready to go further into the depths of the system (from the base of the pyramid upwards). It is important to note that self-identification at level "one" is extremely low, at level "two" it is higher, at level "three" it is the highest. On the approach to the zone of uncertainty at each level, human losses occur in the literal sense of the word - people leave the system. The higher a person is to level "three", the more chances that he will remain in it and become its leader. There is also a regularity that, when faced with the need to pass the "one - two" zone of uncertainty, a person can simply leave the system. But when faced with the need to pass the "two - three" zone of uncertainty, a person, wanting to leave the system, will either be killed or forcibly left in the system. Needless to say, at the “three” level, potential leaders have neither the desire nor the ability to leave the system? They will by definition engage in violent competition until one of them takes the top spot. The defeated are likely to be either exterminated mentally or physically. The supreme leader will take on the most active representatives from level “two” as assistants. Here are my observations on Satanists and devil worshipers in brief.
