Despite the fact that it is possible to emphasize natural beauty with natural remedies, women are susceptible to all kinds of novelties in cosmetology. I would like to remind you that this is primarily a business, and many times from time to time they are convinced from their own experience that advertising "conspiracies" that paint in your imagination an image of yourself shining, in fact, often turn out to be a zilch - and another useless jar of cream worth a bath with champagne. But apart from the lack of the declared effect, cosmetics are fraught with many other things … not the most pleasant.

Please check out our article on what unethical cosmetics cost to animals and stop paying killer companies.

Vivisection - testing cosmetics on animals - is a topic for a separate article, and here we will talk about ingredients of animal origin, that is, about everything that was taken from the dead bodies of tortured animals. In Kazakhstan, alas, it is still not so easy to find ethical cosmetics, not only not tested on animals, but also without animal ingredients - a few brands give such a choice, for example, Lush marked with vegan. But you can at least restrict the purchase of funds that are abundant in cadaveric composition. Below is a list of substances, indicating which of them are exclusively of animal origin, and which are of plant and synthesized origin, and their areas of application.

ALBUMIN is a dry protein of the blood serum of killed animals. It is used as a remedy for wrinkles. Formulated with bovine serum albumin (bovine serum albumin), it coats wrinkles when dry, making them appear less noticeable. In a long-term perspective, it has a negative effect on the skin.

HYALURONIC ACID is a natural component of human skin. Today, hyaluronic acid is most often obtained from rooster combs; in some cases, the human umbilical cord and the vitreous body of the eyes of cattle are used. But lately, hyaluronic acid is more and more often obtained biotechnologically from plant materials using bacterial cultures. The biotechnological route makes it possible to obtain large quantities of a product with a given molecular weight and standardized rheological properties. Therefore, it is more profitable economically. Which cannot but rejoice. It can be found in moisturizers, lipsticks and lip balms, anti-cellulite creams, eye gels, after-sun lotions, anti-inflammatory lotions, wound healing and sunscreens.

FATTY ACIDS and their derivatives. The most important non-food area of application of saturated fatty acids is soap making. Soap is made by boiling fatty oils with alkalis in water. Fatty oils are isolated both from plant products (cottonseed, palm or soybean oil) and from animals, for example, from pork, lamb and other lard or fish oil. When fats are boiled with alkalis, glycerin and fatty acid salts, that is, soap, are formed. Depending on the origin of the fats, glycerin can be both animal and vegetable - in this case, the composition includes “vegetable glycerin”, “vegetable glycerin”.

Sodium Tallowate - sodium tallowate, is a mixture of sodium salts of fatty acids obtained by hydrolysis of animal fats. The most commonly used fats are from cows and pigs. Contained in soap.

COLLAGEN is an ingredient of animal origin in cosmetics. Collagen is a protein that forms the basis of the connective tissue of animals and humans, providing its strength and elasticity. It is present in ligaments, tendons, bones, cartilage, hair and, of course, skin. It is used in anti-aging creams. The problem in the use of collagen is similar to the problem of elastin in cosmetics: too large molecules do not penetrate into the dermis, and have no effect on wrinkles. The film with which the cream with such a composition covers the skin prevents the natural evaporation of moisture, that is, it causes puffiness, due to which wrinkles appear visually less. But at the same time, the skin is stretched, and oxygen exchange is also disturbed. The conclusion is simple - cosmetics containing collagen are not only unethical, but also harmful.

LANOLIN is an animal, woolen wax that is obtained from the washing process of sheep's wool. An element of many ointment bases, it is also found in plasters, adhesive dressings and liniment. Used in cosmetics, where it is the most allergenic ingredient used, it can cause skin rashes and various redness. When buying a product with lanolin, it is recommended to conduct a preliminary test for an allergic reaction, but we strongly recommend not to sponsor by-products of the cruel exploitation of sheep and wool production.

LIPOSOMES are an ingredient in cosmetics for skin and hair. They are hollow capsules with a fatty membrane. They can be of both animal and plant origin, carefully study the composition. The standard liposome size is 0.2-0.6 microns. As you can see, only a small amount of liposomes can penetrate inside. The claims of cosmetics manufacturers that liposomes are deformed to penetrate the pores have not been confirmed by any study, moreover, during the research it turned out that many creams containing liposomes on the label do not have them at all. The effect of the liposome cream was also not recorded.

LECITHIN - chemical lecithins - a group of fatty compounds present in egg yolks, tissues of animals and plants. Read the composition, E476 - animal lecithin, E322 - vegetable. If it is written simply "lecithin", without specifying "soy" or "vegetable", then it is obtained from egg yolk. Lecithins are widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries to improve the composition of emulsions, and are also found in cosmetics and other industries (paints and solvents, paper processing, vinyl coatings). In the food industry, they are used in the preparation of chocolate and chocolate glaze, confectionery bakery, pasta, ice cream, mayonnaise and margarine, and are also part of food lubricants for frying pans and baking sheets. Basically, the source of edible lecithin is soybeans, in which it is 1-3%, as well as sunflower cake, which remains after the oil is pressed. In pharmaceuticals, due to the excess saturated fat in egg yolk, herbal supplements are definitely required to obtain the amount of lecithin needed to maintain health, much less treat disorders. That is, the best in quality and action is vegetable, soy lecithin.

LACTIC ACID - other names: α-hydroxypropionic (2-hydroxypropanoic) acid, E270. A syrupy or liquid colorless or slightly yellowish liquid with a weak odor characteristic of lactic acid and a sour taste. Production method: by fermentation of sugar-containing (raw sugar, refined syrup, beet molasses) and lactose-containing raw materials (milk whey) with lactic acid bacteria of the Lactobacillus family. Miscible with water, alcohol, ether, glycerin. It is used in cleansing and regenerating creams and lotions, as well as a moisturizing and whitening ingredient.

Also used in food and pharmaceutical production. It is added as a preservative to many pharmaceutical and food products: baby food, beer, dairy products, meat, animal feed, cosmetic and tobacco products.

PANTHENOL - can be of both animal and plant origin. But in cosmetology, only synthetic (that is, acceptable for vegans) panthenol has been used for several years.

ELASTIN is an ingredient in cosmetics of animal origin. According to its properties, elastin is similar to collagen, therefore it is used to create anti-aging, regenerating preparations for the skin and hair. Elastin makes up the bulk of the fibers of the connective tissue of vertebrates, is present in the lung tissue, in the walls of blood vessels, ligaments, especially the cervical. However, elastin, which is part of modern cosmetics, is not absorbed by the skin. Due to the large size of the molecules, it does not even penetrate into the dermis. All the "miraculous" properties of elastin creams are nothing more than an empty advertising bubble. The use of products with elastin is not only unethical, the cream disrupts the supply of oxygen to the skin, as it covers the skin with a thin film, which causes a slight swelling of the face and the effect of pseudo-smoothing of wrinkles, but when you stop using the cream, the swelling will go away and the wrinkles will become even more noticeable, because for puffiness, the skin is stretched. Also, everyone should know that elastin is present only in animal organisms, plant elastin does not exist in principle, and you should not trust manufacturers who promise it as part of their cosmetics.

CHITOSAN is a fibrous product made from chitin. Chitin is a naturally occurring substance found in the shells of crustaceans such as crabs and shrimps. Chitosan is used as animal feed, for the manufacture of food and cosmetics, in biomedicine products, and in agriculture. Currently, weight loss mania on supplements of chitosan is gaining popularity. Think about it - people drink shell powder to lose weight! It would seem that for the sake of your own health, give up harmful and dangerous "plastic" food, meat and dairy products, go in for sports! Make such a gift to your body, which is stuffed with either carcinogens and pesticides, or cadaveric poison, or powder from shells … Putting aside emotions, a comment from Fitfan.ru: despite the results of scientific experiments, the effectiveness of this supplement raises serious doubts. It is not known what other nutrients chitosan binds. In 90% of cases, the cause of obesity lies not in fatty foods, but in too many simple carbohydrates. Other facts: due to the high cost of crustacean shells, domesticated and breeding insects are more often used for the production of chitosan. Still want to drink this?
