While walking around Vladimir, I turned into some nook in the historic center and found myself in front of a small one-story house behind a wrought-iron fence. It turned out that this is the forge of the hereditary blacksmiths of the Borodins.
A couple more people came along with me, and we were told that if a quorum was reached, then a master class would be held for us, literally a couple of minutes later a group of schoolchildren pulled up, and this unexpected excursion became one of the most vivid impressions of the trip along the Golden Ring. The smithy is still operating, here you can feel the heat of the red-hot metal, listen to an interesting story about blacksmith's skill, look at the blacksmith's tools and admire the results of the work
While we were waiting for the start of the excursion, we looked at the forged work in the hallway. I really liked this owl.
Flexible kitty stretches on the window in the main hall of the forge
A very dynamic composition with flying cranes, such sharp noses and graceful feathers - it is very difficult to forge this.
And then we all sat down and an amazing blacksmith-storyteller appeared before us! He was so thoughtful, exciting as a professional actor, who spoke about his skills, the arrangement of the forge, the main blacksmith's tools. According to the master, the modern smithy differs from the ancient only in three things: electric blowing, not furs, electric hammer - now you can work alone, and something else that I forgot:)
Almost all the museums of Vladimir and Suzdal were chained by the blacksmith Yuri Nikolaevich Borodin (this is the father or grandfather of our storyteller), the blacksmiths from this workshop participated in the restoration of the monuments of Suzdal, Vladimir, Murom, Moscow, Gus-Khrustalny, Gorokhovets.
What a funny kitty has made a hole in the chimney!
And then the master forged a nail from an iron bar, the children were allowed to take part in forging, I also terribly wanted, but I was ashamed to push the children aside. A nail is a symbol of the beginning and end of building a house, travelers always had a nail in their bag in their bag - it was believed that a piece of the house would help the traveler in difficult times
And this is my favorite work - a cat peering into a window covered with frost patterns. Such a quintessence of comfort. In decorative panels you can see the silence and tranquility of the garden outside the window, the moment of flowering thistle, an unexpected meeting of a cat with a rooster
Look, they even forged the birds outside the window! And sugar and tea
And at the entrance to the smithy there is a wonderful work - a boy on an oak tree releases a bird from a cage, against the background of the blue sky and young spring foliage it looks wonderful. You can also hold a wedding in the smithy. It turns out that a wedding in a forge is an old Russian tradition; in Russia, newlyweds came to the blacksmith to forge a horseshoe, a symbol of family happiness
As a resident of the Far East, I am very surprised by such corners of our homeland that have preserved ancient traditions, I highly recommend that you visit the smithy if you are in Vladimir.

"Russian Leonardo" - Vladimir Shukhov
Vladimir Grigorievich Shukhov, a remarkable engineer of the late XIX - early XX century, refused to imitate foreign models and began to create in an original, purely Russian style, relying on the traditions of Lomonosov, Mendeleev, Kazakov, Kulibin. During his lifetime, he was called "the man-factory" and "Russian Leonardo": with only a few assistants, he was able to accomplish as much as a dozen research institutes could do. Shukhov has more than one hundred inventions, but he patented 15: there was no time. And this is also very Russian
