Sepp Holzer's Permaculture

Help from Wiki:

Sepp Holzer comes from a family of farmers. In 1962 he took over his parents' mountain farm. Having failed with orthodox farming practices, he began organic farming (permaculture) on his Krameterhof estate in the Austrian Alps, which is located at a high altitude in the mountains (1100-1500 meters above sea level).

He is called a "rebellious farmer" because he persisted in his methods despite being fined and even threatened with jail time for his technologies, such as failing to prune his fruit trees (uncut fruit trees can withstand the loads of snow that break cut trees). He has also created some of the world's best examples of using reservoirs as reflectors to increase passive solar heating, as well as using the microclimate created by rock outcrops to expand the zone of favor for nearby plants. He has also done various applied research.

Sepp Holzer is currently teaching permaculture workshops both at his Krameterhof and around the world, while continuing to work on his alpine farm. His expanded farm now encompasses over 45 hectares of gardens, including 70 bodies of water, and is arguably the most consistent example of permaculture principles applied worldwide.
