The ID2020 Alliance, or Digital Identity 2020, is a futuristic community project that some of the world's most influential foundations and multinationals have been working on for many years, including Microsoft, led by Bill Gates.

The ID2020 Alliance was founded in 2015, but few know the true mission of this global partnership, which brings together a range of business and community organizations to “improve the lives of all citizens” through the creation and widespread dissemination of the so-called “digital identity”.

But lately, more and more people are looking for information about what ID2020 really is, primarily after Bill Gates - the founder of Microsoft Corporation, and also currently the second richest person in the world - spoke about the benefits of digital ID in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and in the event of any similar pandemics in the future.

How can this digital ID help fight the pandemic? The answer to this question is found in the mission of the ID2020 Alliance, in which there is nothing secret: you just need to go to the official website of this association to get an idea of how those who belong to it want to improve people's lives with the help of innovative technologies.

ID2020: What is the Digital Identity Alliance?

As mentioned above, the ID2020 Digital Identity Alliance was founded in 2015, when a number of commercial and public organizations united in it with the aim of improving the quality of life through the introduction of "digital identity".

This Alliance is overseen by a board that works with various UN agencies, as well as non-governmental organizations, commercial companies and government agencies around the world. Among other influential structures, Microsoft and its founder Bill Gates, as well as the Rockefeller Foundation and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), are found on the list of partners and sponsors of this Alliance.

If the first two members of the alliance need no introduction, then, probably, few know about such a structure as GAVI, but it is this structure that plays the main role in the organization of ID2020 (and below you will understand why).

So, GAVI is a kind of "Vaccination Alliance" that brings together representatives of commercial and public structures with a common goal to create equal access to new and rarely used vaccines for those children who live in the poorest countries of the world. And at the same time, it is vaccination that is the central theme on which the idea of "digital identity" is based.

In fact, ID2020 is an electronic identification program designed to involve every person on Earth in this process; at the same time, this program will use the mechanism of universal vaccination of all people on the planet as a basic platform for its implementation.

This is feasible today, as the program is closely interlinked with electronic birth registration systems, as well as with existing vaccination programs, which are used to ultimately provide each newborn with a portable digital ID associated with his biometric data.

ID2020: a microchip implanted in the human body?

Now let's think (many people ask this question in the first place): how can this digital ID card be “linked to biometric data” of a person?

The answer is: using the so-called Quantum Dot Tattoos technology, when such tattoos are applied to soluble sugar-based microneedles. They include two components: a vaccine against certain diseases and luminescent quantum dots based on copper compounds, enclosed in biocompatible micrometer-sized capsules. Once the microneedles dissolve under the skin, they leave behind embedded quantum dots, which can then be read out to determine which vaccine was injected.

ID2020: how is it related to the COVID-19 pandemic?

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Rice University are working on the Quantum Dot Tattoos technology, and the technology may have, according to Bill Gates, an important role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and possible future pandemics.

According to the founder of Microsoft (recall that he was among those who foresaw the risk of a virus emerging in advance, the spread of which would lead to global infection), eventually digital certificates will be introduced based on this technology, which will show those who have already recovered and therefore is immune to disease. Digital certificates will also show those who have been vaccinated (as soon as possible).

ID2020: What is the Real Purpose of the Digital Identity Alliance?

Thus, digital certificates will be necessary in order to contain complete information about the history of a person's vaccination, and will be an integral part of the entire ID2020 project.

However, the ID2020 project assumes the inclusion of other data about a person in the digital identifier. So, microcircuits implanted into the human body can be used for identity verification (that is, as a replacement for traditional paper identity documents, such as a passport), as well as for exchanging banking information when performing transactions (thus, in the future, such microchips can be used as means of payment for purchases).

To date, this is still only speculation, but the fact that the Alliance for Digital Identity ID2020 exists, works and does not hide it. So, on the official website of this Alliance on the Internet, the goals of its creation are written in black and white: for example, that with the help of the tool of "digital identification" everyone will have the opportunity to "prove who he is" - that there is a universal fundamental human right - "equally reliable as in the physical world and the Internet."

But why is it necessary for everyone to have their own digital identifier? The goal of the Alliance is for all people to have a unified ID, which will belong to them from birth to death, and will allow them to prove who they are, both in the national and international legal field.

At the same time, the program provides that people will be able to control how data about them is collected, how it is used and where it is transmitted. It is known that today access to the necessary goods and services for about one billion people is significantly hampered, and at the same time it is recognized that the reason for this is the lack of means of identifying a person. According to the creators of the ID2020 Alliance, this problem will disappear if the program of "correct" digital identification of a person is implemented, since in this case people with a digital ID will be able to use their credentials in various institutions and organizations to have access to the necessary goods and services. At the same time, the Alliance guarantees "maximum respect for the safety of private life and personal secrets," which means that a person will control the information provided about himself.

ID 2020: why do many disagree?

Paradoxically, the reason many people strongly oppose the digital ID project is one of the principles on which the Alliance is based, it is about privacy.

Indeed, a very important question is what effects and consequences will arise in terms of maintaining the confidentiality of personal life in the event that a project for the mandatory introduction of microchips into the human body starts on a global scale. Many believe that there is a risk of a transition to a social order similar to Orwell's Big Brother, where the presence of a microchip in each person's body will make him live with the feeling (and, perhaps, not only with him) that he can be tested in anywhere and anytime.

Keep in mind the conflicts of interest that Microsoft will have over the global power that the ID2020 Alliance and all of its partners will inevitably gain. The so-called "Big Pharma", that is, the community of all pharmaceutical companies involved in the development and introduction of vaccines, will acquire exactly the same power.

Therefore, there are those who reasonably fear that the "digital identity card" project may lead to the restriction of a person's legal freedom. Of course, at the moment this is hypothetical reasoning, but nevertheless, it is worth thinking about what will happen if such a digital identifier becomes mandatory, and the person refuses to implant it. There is a risk that in this case a normal life in society will become impossible for a person, because the presence of a digital identifier will become an important condition for finding a job, for obtaining a loan, even so that a child can go to school.

Therefore, despite the fact that the ID2020 Alliance pledges to comply with ethical standards in the implementation and use of this new technology, the fear of being in a society where anyone will be under constant remote control scares many.
