Who and why organized this show, and why Snowden is so amicably supported not only by the world media, but also by the Russian ones: from the absolutely liberal Novaya Gazeta to the state-owned Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Former CIA and US NSA officer Edward Snowden became known to the general public in June 2013, when he handed over classified information to the Guardian and The Washington Post newspapers regarding the total surveillance of American and British special services on citizens around the world. From the published documents it follows that London and Washington have access to the information bases of such giants as Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, YouTube, Skype, Apple and use this access to solve their problems.

Several books have already been written about Snowden today, an Oscar-winning biopic Citizenfour has been shot, and the thriller of the same name is due out next year. Thanks to the wide publicity of the international media, the whole world is familiar with the story of the escape of the former CIA officer from the United States, how he got to Russia and received temporary asylum here. The Western and Russian press have already shaped Snowden's image of a real hero and fighter for justice. And now about who and why organized this show, and why Snowden is so amicably supported not only by the world media, but also by the Russian ones: from the absolutely liberal Novaya Gazeta to the state-owned Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

First of all, the Edward Snowden project is long-term. Since the fugitive handed over the database of secret documents to Western journalists, the press regularly surfaced yet another incriminating evidence against the American and British special services, and thereby dealt a blow to the prestige of these countries and weakened confidence in their leadership.

Therefore, the goal that lies on the surface and is obvious to everyone is to discredit London and Washington and systematically reduce the level of their influence in the international arena. Naturally, this process is taking place under the cosmopolitan slogans of the struggle for human rights and for the interests of society, which is suffering from the actions of the American special services. And it would be good to be happy for a real hero and a man with a capital Snowden, who opens everyone's eyes to the atrocities of the CIA, NSA and MI6, but it does not work. And the reason is that the main elements of the entire expanded information campaign are: the central London newspaper The Guardian and the central Washington Post. It was they who promoted Snowden to the whole world, it was to the journalists of these publications that he handed over an information base of two hundred thousand secret documents, and they also helped him escape from the United States and get to Russia.

And here you, dear viewers, have a choice: either to admit that the British and American press are so fair and honest that they are ready, in the name of abstract humanism, to openly discredit the governments of their own countries for several years; or to admit that there are other forces that stand above London and Washington, and in whose interests these publications are working.

Following the second version, we will demonstrate the main purpose with which the Edward Snowden project was launched. Until recently, control over the servers and databases of Microsoft, Google, Facebook and other Western information giants was held not only by the US intelligence services, but also by the management of these corporations themselves. This important point practically does not appear in any way in numerous publications devoted to this whole story. Apparently, the reader should, by default, think that the management of these TNCs, unlike the intelligence services and governments, will use this tool only for good purposes. But this is far from the case. Employees of the CIA, NSA and other special agencies, at least nominally, serve their people and act in accordance with the constitution and other laws. In contrast, the owners of such transnational corporations serve their private interests and act within the framework of only one law - to maximize profits. Thanks to an extensive information campaign to discredit the secret services, the owners of TNCs remove their competitors and gain full and sole control over the main flows of information, eliminating any influence from the national governments.

Summarize:

  • The main goal with which the Edward Snowden brand was launched is to remove the control of governments and states over large information corporations (Google, Facebook, Apple, etc.), which are the most powerful tool for the unstructured management of society.
  • By default, it follows that absolute control over these resources will remain only in the hands of the TNC owners.

Related findings from the analysis:

  • Mainstream British and American media such as The Guardian and The Washington Post are not subordinate to the US and UK governments, but serve the interests of TNCs.
  • Tactically - from the level of international politics - the information operation "Edward Snowden" is beneficial to Russia, as it works to weaken the United States and Great Britain.
  • Strategically - from the level of global politics - the Snowden project works to transfer power from national elites to supranational structures, which poses a threat to the peoples of all countries, including Russia.
