A secret state alchemical laboratory appeared in Kraskovo, which was supposed to discover the secret of the Philosopher's Stone, but in full measure to obtain precious metals, but to create an elixir to prolong the life of the ruling elite of the USSR.
In mid-February 1933, in Kraskovo near Moscow, several black "funnels" and a couple of trucks appeared, delivering a group of ten people and many boarded up boxes to one of the departmental dachas. Leaving the load in the courtyard behind a high fence, the cars drove off in the direction of Moscow, and people slowly began to disassemble the brought equipment, bringing it into a spacious two-story wooden house and a small shed located nearby. No one in the neighboring houses paid attention to the new tenants, it was not customary to take an interest in the neighbors. Yes, and it was hard to think that on that day a secret state alchemical laboratory appeared in Kraskovo, which was supposed to discover the secret of the Philosopher's Stone, but not at all to obtain precious metals, but to create an elixir to prolong the life of the ruling elite of the USSR.

CHAIRMAN O. G. P. U. under S. N. K. MENZHINSKY
The main task of the ANDROGEN group was the analysis of ancient alchemical treatises in order to reveal the secret of the Philosopher's Stone. A group of researchers led by Academician S. Savelyev, whose surname often appears in documents, was involved in the work on this problem. Obviously, Savelyev's group was able to achieve significant results in the analysis of alchemical works, since already in December 1934 an order came from the Internal Affairs Committee of the USSR instructing Savelyev to report on the practical results of his research.
T. Savelyev
Group "ANDROGEN"
December 27, 1934
Within THREE days, you must prepare a report that you will personally voice in the KREMLIN (Comrade Vlasov will tell you the exact time and date), due to the great interest that the leaders of the Party and government of the Soviet Union have shown in your work.
The text of the report should be printed in 3 copies.
Pay special attention to the aspect of how your research can be usefully used and useful for Soviet science and industry and what is necessary in order to develop your direction to the level of a state institution.
Estimated report time is 30 minutes.
NKVD SECRETARIAT HEAD BULANOV
Having received this order, Savelyev wrote a somewhat romantic letter in response, which Bulanov prudently began to send to the Central Committee (as evidenced by the postscript at the end of the document), which, most likely, saved Savelyev's life.
Comrade Bulanov
SECRETARIAT OF THE DRUG OF THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS
I am extremely touched, I am happy that the leadership of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks and members of the government are interested in what we are inventing here.
I am almost an "adept" already (just kidding), but I hope you will understand me. Therefore, in order for me to make a splash with the audience, so that my report is not boring and naive, I would like to boldly ask you (dare) consult with the Central Committee of the party about a possible postponement of the report, since for THREE days I really cannot describe anything, since everything that we study here is, first of all, deep philosophy, practical chemistry, geophysics, and of course not, all this is certainly a treasure trove of wealth for paid scientific discoveries and promising research of our Soviet science and very important (paramount) for industry, state defense …
For a serious report, I need at least a month, and taking into account the upcoming trip, half a year. It's about research. We have just entered the unknown. I lost my owls. I dream of tablets, alchemical equations, formulas, I wake up at night with thoughts that help me in my work. My colleagues behave in the same way. It's a fascinating exploration, and you can't talk about it for 15 minutes. At least half an hour.
Incredible discoveries will happen, as we plan, upon the return of our group from Europe. We must get to the bottom of the truth, and then proceed to practical experiments. When we're ready mentally.
I will start preparing the report today. But nevertheless, if only our brilliant minds in the Central Committee nevertheless decide to give me (us) such a reprieve, I would be even happier and elated, and would have done the impossible for the sake of Soviet science. I believe in it. And you, like no one else, know all the little things and characteristic features of the direction.
In fact (and practically) we are "court" alchemists who were in the service of kings and the Inquisition. Studying the treatises of ancient philosophers and alchemists, in the first lines we read almost the same thing - about seclusion. Before embarking on the process of the "Great Work", it is necessary to separate from the outside world, with all its problems and "chaos". Only then will the "keys" coming from above be available to us. This is figuratively speaking. This does not mean at all that I should perceive an invitation to the Kremlin as a hostile act. But still, if this is done now, within THREE days, then my report will be boring and naive.
We are here under your wing comprehending the incomprehensible. If I am wrong in something, of course, you can correct me. In the end, I am in your service and the NKVD pays us the finances. But all, calling for understanding, for the sake of success, for the sake of knowing the secret that we are trying to learn here, in the beautiful forest, I would ask to postpone the report to the Central Committee of the Party to a later date, when there is a critical need for it.
Yours, sincerely yours, always academician SAVELIEV
December 28, 1934
Handwritten note: Com. Bulanov left this letter without showing it to anyone, 1934-30-12.
Obviously, after this letter, Savelyev had a very unpleasant conversation with Bulanov, who, most likely, popularly explained to him how such refusals and romantic reflections end in response to direct orders from the Central Committee. Moreover, Bulanova's arguments were apparently very weighty, since it took Savelyev not three days, but only a day to prepare a report for the Central Committee. On December 30, 1934, he reported to the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) and personally to I. Stalin.
All-Union Communist Patria (Bolsheviks).
CENTRAL COMMITTEE
December 30, 1934
About the group comrade Savelieva
Central Committee of the CPSU (b) after hearing the report of Comrade. Saveliev on the work of his direction, considers the development of such scientific research promising.
Considering the wishes of Comrade. Savelyeva, Central Committee -
Resolves:
1. Transfer to the household. Use of the NKVDSSSR dacha complex at the station. Mammoth to accommodate a group of comrade. Saveliev.
2. The NKVD take on the balance sheet the property of the dacha complex and carry out the transfer of a group of scientists by the end of 1935.
3. Assign a representative of the Central Committee to the group, Comrade Minenkov.
4. The NKVD and the People's Commissariat for Finance should authorize the transfer of the necessary volume for scientific purposes, for setting up experiments, gold and silver of the highest standard and other rare minerals at the disposal of Comrade Saveliev.
SECRETARY OF THE CC STALIN
Already in January 1935, Savelyev's group received all the necessary materials, scientific equipment, reagents, as well as the opportunity to make foreign business trips to work in Western archives and communicate with specialists in alchemy. The list of ordered equipment, which was provided to Savelyev by the NKVD, takes 4 typewritten sheets.
Leafing through the documents of the Savelyev case, one can find many deciphered alchemical treatises, symbols, formulas, which eventually made it possible to understand the process of making the Philosopher's Stone, presented in Savelyev's report under the title Philosopher's Stone ". And further, on 7 pages, a complex chemical process is described, which, as a result, led to the production of … "Living water - the elixir of life, healing from diseases and prolonging life" …

When the triple courts of the NKVD could pass an acquittal
Those who are interested in Soviet history know that different periods have happened throughout its course. Most evoke patriotic pride. However, there are those that I would like to erase forever not only from memory, but also to remove them altogether, turning the wheel of this very story in the other direction
In search of Hyperborea, a secret expedition of the NKVD
In 1922, the first expedition headed by Barchenko and Kondiain went to the Seydozero and Lovozero areas of the Murmansk region. The idea to send specialists there was personally supported by Felix Dzerzhinsky. Now it is difficult to establish what goals were set for the expedition. Hardly only scientific: later, large reserves of rare earth elements were discovered here. Upon his return, the materials of the expedition were studied at the Lubyanka. At the same time, its leaders were kept under lock and key
Unique photos of the children's colony of the NKVD
Photos from this album are published for the first time. Creating such albums was a very popular pastime among the NKVD officers. Photo sessions, as they would say now, of course, were staged. The photographer had to capture the happy faces of the prisoners who confidently embarked on a difficult and, at times, thorny path of correction
Leather jackets as a uniform for soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army and the NKVD
The leather jacket and cloak are the same cultural symbol of the fighters of the state security organs of the post-revolutionary period, like the revolver and mass shootings. Was the leather jacket really official clothing and was it only the NKVD who wore such a jacket? Apparently, everything was not quite as it seems at first
