Opinion of the St. Petersburg native-faith community "Krin"

Traditionally, the most heated debate among "Rodnovers" every year arises about these 2 holidays. Where did they come from and what do they mean?

Probably it is worth starting with the fact that there are several calendar systems used by our ancestors:

1. Solar - simple and understandable to everyone in calculations, based on the position of the sun.

2. Lunar-solar - the most difficult in calculating annual holidays, because uses both the phases of the moon and the positions of the sun.

Different traditions use different systems and the dates of holidays (rituals) directly depend on this. It is difficult to judge which of them is more correct, and as regards Russia, documentary evidence in a single (!) Use of any one calendar of ceremonies does not exist at all, in different areas it was different and in different centuries in different ways.

It should be noted that the fertile cycle is more consistent with the lunar calendar, which is why it is used by all peasants and gardeners.

So:

-COMEDITSA (solar calendar)

Holiday time: Day of the vernal equinox (March 21-22)

Komoeditsa is a “holiday of eating lumps” (or “eating comas”), special pancakes dedicated to the bear. The bear is a sacred animal of Veles (Veles himself), which is closely associated with the cult of the ancestors. It is believed that Veles himself comes out of the forests at this time.

The holiday on the spring equinox in Russia is called Zimobor, Ladodenie, Komoeditsy, Larks, Soroki, the Second call of spring..

Those. Komoeditsa is a holiday of reverence for ancestors and the awakening of nature. This is the time when active sap flow begins in the northern regions.

However, the awakening of nature in different areas (latitudes) is completely different, and when nature has already awakened in the water area, there is still snow in another area, therefore there was no single rigid calendar for the whole immense Russia.

-OIL (lunisolar calendar).

(late Feb-early March, on the new moon)

Maslenitsa, the holiday of seeing off Winter, is the only pagan holiday officially recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church. Why did the church practically manage to nullify such a cathedral holiday as Kupala, and this one is widely and popularly celebrated and even included in the system of Easter holidays?

In our opinion, there is only one reason, this is not a "Christian remake" holiday, but one of the ancient and most powerful holidays of the New Summer (year). If it were not for it, it would have been impossible to plant it.

So this holiday was not created by Christianity and there is nothing Christian in this holiday.

The holiday began to be called Maslenitsa only from the 16th century, when it was included in church holidays. Shrovetide got its name from the church calendar, because during this period of time - the last week before Great Lent, butter is allowed to be eaten.

Those. the name itself was given by Christianity, but not the date.

However, it is worth recognizing that the original meaning (the beginning of a new Summer), which was introduced by the ancient Slavs, gradually came to naught under Christianity and at this historical moment is perceived more as a "feast of the belly" before Lent.

CONCLUSION:

It seems more than impossible to "invent" a holiday of such a scale, and to regard it as something hostile and completely criminal in relation to the natural rhythm and one's own people.

As a result, he may notice that both lunar and solar calendar systems correspond to human biorhythmics, which one to choose specifically for ourselves, we decide for ourselves.

Historically, the Slavs did not have a postulate calendar, and it could not have been, based on the too different climatic conditions of residence.
