The ceremony of launching a unique submarine of project 09852, which will act as a carrier of the Poseidon nuclear torpedo, was held at Sevmash, RIA-Novosti reports.
The launch of a nuclear submarine of project 09852, scheduled for April 23, became known in advance, therefore, special media attention was riveted to the event. Now this information has been confirmed by RIA Novosti.
Due to the high level of secrecy, journalists were not able to film the submarine in photos and videos. At the same time, many details of the new "weapon of retaliation" became known earlier. We are talking about both the project 09852 submarine and its weapon - the Poseidon apparatus, which acts as a carrier of nuclear weapons.
Recall that Poseidon, also known as Status-6, is a Russian project of an unmanned underwater vehicle with a nuclear power plant. Its main task is to deliver a super-powerful nuclear weapon to the shores of a potential enemy in the event of a global war. The destruction of strategically important coastal objects is achieved through a nuclear explosion, the creation of vast zones of radioactive contamination, as well as the impact of a powerful tsunami that may result from the use of such weapons. Carrier strike groups also act as possible targets for Poseidon, which distinguishes the project of its predecessors, which did not have the necessary guidance systems.

The submarine of project 09852 "Belgorod" will become the first regular carrier of the "Poseidon" underwater vehicles. The ship was laid down at Sevmash on July 24, 1992 as an Antey-class nuclear submarine. In 2012, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the submarine would be completed according to a special project. At the same time, the length of the boat increased from the original 154 to 184 meters, which is almost 11 meters longer than the Project 941 Akula submarine, the largest submarine in the world.

Surpasses "Belgorod" in length and the largest American submarine - a strategic submarine of the "Ohio" type. The length of the latter is 170 meters.
In addition to Poseidon, the Project 09852 submarine must carry conventional 650mm and 533mm torpedoes. Earlier, the issue of arming "Belgorod" with new cruise missiles was also considered, however, as far as can be judged, this was abandoned.
Earlier, we will remind, it became known that "Borey" can be rearmed from the problematic "Bulava" to cruise missiles. Two of these submarines may come to the disposal of the Navy after 2027.
