This work completes a series of articles on astronomical solar holidays. The project was prepared by the Network Expert Community, the Hundred Committee in collaboration with the website of the Movement for the Revival of National Science. The desire to build people's lives in accordance with solar rhythms, with the laws of Nature is of increasing interest among new generations as an alternative to the current civilization.
Happy New Sun Day
Victory of Light over Darkness - the day of the vernal equinox
Kupala glades - a political force
September 22 is the day of the autumnal equinox, a day when the length of the day and night is 12 hours. In the northern hemisphere, the astronomical autumn begins on this day, in the southern hemisphere - the astronomical spring.
This date was significant and festive for the ancient Slavs and other peoples.
Among the Slavs, this holiday is called Tausen (Ovsen, Rodogosh, Khoros, Usen, Oseniny). This is the fourth astronomical holiday, along with Kolyada, Komoeditsa, Kupala, completing the annual colo - the solstice.
On this day, it was customary for the Slavs to conduct special ceremonies around the fire, honor ancestors, burn a symbolic straw bird, letting go of everything unnecessary in thought and tuning in for a long winter. Kindred gathered together and laid tables, baked pies and cooked all kinds of food, sang, danced, danced in circles, played games and had fun. Children decorated houses with rowan branches. Everything that happened in Slavic families personified abundance, joy of life, harmony with Nature. This day was a day of gratitude to the Earth for the harvest, berries, mushrooms and everything that Nature gives to man. Also, this day was the day of summing up the results of the outgoing agricultural season, rethinking what was possible and what is lacking for success.
Despite the Christianity prevailing among the Slavs today, pagan echoes of this holiday can be found in the Christian holiday - the day of Thekla-Zarevnitsa. From that day on, the peasants began to thresh bread in the morning (hammering), lit a fire in the barns ("Name Day of the Owen"). They said: "On Zarevnitsa, the owner is given a teddy of bread, and for the threshers, a pot of porridge." They noted: "From Zarevnitsa - the dawns become crimson", and the day is quickly waning - "runs away with a horse gallop."
The day of the autumnal equinox is celebrated today in many countries.
In Japan, this holiday is considered a state holiday. The holiday of admiring the moon is called Tsukimi Matsuri, it is celebrated on the full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox … This is the 15th day of the lunar calendar. On this day, the Japanese bring cleanliness and order to their homes, commemorate their ancestors, set the table - their customs of celebrating this day are very similar to the Slavic ones.
For the Mexicans, the holiday of the autumnal equinox is inextricably linked with such a historical place as Kukulcana. Pyramid of Kukulkan - one of the most famous pyramids of the Maya people - located in the ancient city of Chichen Itza. During the construction of this pyramid, such proportions were observed that during the period of the spring and autumn equinox one can observe the unique spectacle of the "feathered serpent" - the shadow from the stepped edges of the pyramid falls on one of the stairs, creating an alternation of triangular solar and shadow figures. Sinking lower, the play of shadows and sunlight forms a whimsical snake figure. At the same time, it seems that the snake is crawling up the stairs in March and down in September. On the days of the equinox, the inhabitants of Mexico gather at the pyramid to see this miracle, which lasts 3 hours and 22 minutes.
The Celtic holiday of Mabon is similar. Druids traditionally climb to the top of the mountain to spend more time with the summer sun, as the nights get longer. On this day, the Celts performed magic rituals, laid tables that were supposed to be filled with the fruits of the new harvest. Also on this day, it was customary to go to the forest and collect seeds and herbs to dry them for the winter, to collect fallen leaves to decorate the house.
In India during this period it is customary to honor the ancestors.
Representatives of various Slavic communities will again gather in modern Russia on September 24 and 25 to celebrate Tausen. Ritual bonfires will be lit again, ritual loaves and soft drinks will be tried. People will gather to thank Mother Earth for her gifts and generous harvest. Tables will be bursting with treats, the holiday will end with round dances and games.
And as was customary many centuries ago, the participants of the holiday will take stock of the outgoing warm season, let go of everything unnecessary that interferes with development and growth, rethink their actions, values, and their life path. Isn't this a trait of a healthy personality - to be able to analyze, rethink your experience and part with disturbing thoughts and attitudes? This is what people and the whole society lack so much now - awareness. People turn to various religions in search of a miracle, not realizing that everything that happens and can happen to them is only in their hands.
The modern government and representatives of the church consider these cults to be remnants of a primitive society. And they associate the pagan period with a low level of development, with the savagery and ignorance of the people. But could a primitive primitive society know so well the natural astronomical processes? Could ignorant people treat Nature as something living, sacred?
A modern society with advanced science and technological progress lacks the understanding that Nature is unique, intelligent, capable of providing resources for the entire population of the Earth. The condition for the survival and development of mankind should be the conformity of nature to science, economics, production, and people's way of life.
All the ideas of the Slavs about the world and man were based on an understanding of the cyclical nature of natural processes, on the understanding of the endless rotation of the annual circle from the young Kolyada sun, which turns into the playful spring sun Yarilu, then becomes a sultry summer Kupala, continuing until the autumn Svetovit. Human life was also viewed as a series of cycles - from infancy to adolescence, marriage and childbirth, to wise old age. Each cycle must be passed with dignity and correctly completed with the transition to a new one, which is why the Slavs celebrated astronomical holidays associated with the agricultural cycle, and also held various age initiations - girls were prepared for marriage, and men for protection and provision of the clan.
Perhaps, our society now needs to reconsider the values and attitudes that prevent us from moving on and coming to a reasonable natural path of development. Paganism carried its wise foundations through a series of centuries. And it is no coincidence that now there is an increased interest around the world in antiquity, history, origins.
Ancient pagan cults of different peoples are similar. Everywhere there is reverence for Nature and compliance with the astromic cycle. Many experts claim that sacred signs, such as, for example, yarga (swastika) or alatyr are found among different peoples. The customs and traditions of different cultures are similar. The languages, ornaments, traditions of all Slavs - Russians and Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Poles, etc. are similar in a special way. Divided into various religious trends (Orthodox, Catholics, Protestants, etc.), the Slavic peoples, who once had a common culture, are fragmented and scattered. The dominant state ideologies contributed to even greater disunity and a series of conflicts between states. This does not allow both the Slavs to become a single people again, and other peoples to unite and agree among themselves, although there are more and more economic, environmental, social reasons for this.
The day of the autumnal equinox is a time to take stock and revise the foundations of the existence of today's civilization.
I would like to wish everyone autumn wisdom, prosperity, prosperity and health!
