1) The photo is clearly not a deer. At least, as a graduate of the biology department, I can say for sure that this species of deer is not known to science. The animal is 95% similar to a Kangaroo! Don't believe me? Compare yourself with a photo of a live kangaroo, and pay attention to the shape of the ears, the bag on the belly and the vertical position of the body:
2) Well, let's say the author of the article or the archaeologist was mistaken and did not see what kind of beast is depicted next to the Mayan princess. One can understand that not everyone is on friendly terms with zoology. But if it's a kangaroo, which I'm 100% sure of, how did it get to South America? Kangaroo habitat - Australia and adjacent islands (common knowledge). And this must be said, several thousand kilometers across the entire Pacific Ocean.
Different thoughts suggest themselves. Either we do not know something about the migrations of kangaroos over the past 1.5 thousand years, or intercivilizational (intercontinental) contacts took place long before the Conquest and representatives of the Mayan tribes saw kangaroos with their own eyes.
