According to the history, the drink "Coca-Cola" was invented in Atlanta (Georgia, USA) on May 8, 1886. Its author is the pharmacist John Stith Pemberton, a former officer of the American Confederation Army (there is a legend that it was invented by a farmer who sold his recipe to John Stith for $ 250, as John Stith allegedly said in one of his interviews).
The name for the new drink was invented by Frank Robinson, Pemberton's accountant, who also, using calligraphy, wrote the words "Coca-Cola" in beautiful curly letters, which are still the logo of the drink.

The main ingredients of Coca-Cola were as follows: three parts of coca leaves (from the same leaves in 1859 Albert Niemann isolated a special component (drug) and called it cocaine) to one part of the nuts of the tropical cola tree. The resulting drink was patented as a drug "for any nervous disorder" and was sold through a vending machine at Jacob's largest city drugstore in Atlanta. Pemberton also argued that Coca-Cola heals impotence and that it can be switched to those who are addicted to morphine (by the way, Pemberton himself was not indifferent to morphine). It should be noted here that cocaine was not a prohibited substance at that time, and nothing was known about its harm to health (for example, in the story "The Sign of the Four" by Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes used cocaine in moments of inactivity, so painfully tolerated by him). Therefore, cocaine was freely sold, and it was often added for pleasure and tone to drinks instead of alcohol - Coca-Cola was not new in this.
Cocaine was declared a drug - Coca Cola was banned from using cocaine in the production of its drinks. As a result, Coca Cola closed its recipe making it "Secret" and continued to release its drink, but we understand that to remake the entire industry and leave the same taste, replacing ingredients in one day is impossible, and whether it is necessary - after all, the costs will not pay off.

Newspaper headlines:
Coca-Cola hides a sweetener
The interregional public organization of consumers "Open Association of Consumers" demanded through the courts to prohibit the sale of Coca-Cola Light in Russia. The drink's maker, the Coca-Cola Company, does not indicate on its product label that it contains the sweetener aspartame, the plaintiff explains. “The claim is pending in the Kuntsevsky court, hearings on the case are already underway,” a representative of the Open Consumer Association told Gazeta. Ru.
Consumer rights defenders also sent relevant inquiries to the head of Rospotrebnadzor Gennady Onishchenko and Minister of Health Tatyana Golikova. The Coca-Cola Company could not be reached for comment.
Aspartame is an artificial sweetener, sugar substitute (food additive E951). L-Aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl, which breaks down in the human body into methanol and two proteinogenic amino acids: aspartic and phenylalanine….
The sugar substitute aspartame, decomposing in our body, gives methyl alcohol, which turns into formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a powerful poison, officially recognized as a carcinogen, that is, a substance that can cause cancer.
How Coca Cola Gets Coca Leaves
To this day, the Coca-Cola Company imports coca leaves, which are used to make cocaine in the United States. Coca leaves have been chewed and eaten for thousands of years in the Andes. Coca leaves are rich in many essential nutrients, they are useful for breathing difficulties and digestive problems, as well as being a natural stimulant and pain reliever. Scientific studies have confirmed that in their natural form, coca leaves are completely safe and non-addictive, however, this does not prevent them from being the raw material for the production of cocaine. This is why more and more Coca-containing products have started to appear on the market in the Andean countries in the past few years. However, the United States continues to aggressively encourage Andean governments to spray toxic chemicals over their forests to destroy this medicinal crop. Under US law, it is illegal to import coca leaves … unless you are the Coca-Cola Company.
In an effort to preserve the traditional flavor of the popular drink, the company has long convinced the US government to exempt it from this law. Coca-Cola, by the way, literally contained cocaine in the original formula, and the practice was discontinued in 1903, but the name survived. The "Coca" portion of "Coca-Cola" is derived from coca, and "Cola" comes from the cola nut, which is the flavoring for the drink.
Coca-Cola is the only American corporation legally entitled to import coca leaves into the United States. In 1922, the Jones-Miller Act banned the import of cocaine into the United States, but an exception was made for Coca-Cola and its laboratories. This exception remained a mystery until the late 1980s, until the moment when the New York Times discovered the truth (www.nytimes.com/1988/07/01/).
