And suddenly there was silence in the church; a wolf howl was heard in the distance, and soon heavy footsteps sounded across the church; glancing sideways, he saw that they were leading some squat, stout, club-footed man. He was all in the black earth. Like sinewy, strong roots, his legs and arms, covered with earth, protruded. He walked heavily, stumbling every minute. Long eyelids were drawn down to the ground. Khoma noticed with horror that his face was iron. They brought him under the arms and put him straight to the place where Khoma was standing.
- Raise my eyelids: I don't see! - Viy said in an underground voice - and the whole host rushed to raise his eyelids.
"Don't look!" - whispered some inner voice to the philosopher. He could not bear it and looked.
- Here it is! - Viy shouted and stared at him with an iron finger. And everyone, no matter how it was, rushed at the philosopher. Breathless, he fell to the ground, and immediately the spirit flew out of him from fear."
(N. V. Gogol "Viy")
One of the spheres of human activity that society cannot do without is the sphere of funeral services. For all its significance in our life, humanity is trying to bypass its public discussion. Meanwhile, Death, like Christmas, is a sublime state, meaning a transition to a new form of existence. I will not argue with atheists, because I am sure that they do not exist in nature, but I consider it necessary to talk with the reader about Death.
Everyone who has read my miniatures knows that the OSG (Operational Investigation Group) I created on the virtual spaces of the Internet consists of retired detectives from many countries of the world. I am forced to report this in almost every new work, because there are new readers who are not familiar with the previous ones and believe that I am writing without relying on facts. This is not so: for each miniature there is a criminal case filed and drawn up in accordance with all the rules of criminal proceedings, which I am ready to submit to any court in the world. I will say more, corruption is completely absent in our ranks, due to the virtuality of the ranks and serious conspiracy in the OSG itself. We do not need handouts from the mighty, and there are good reasons for that. Therefore, starting any investigation, my colleagues pursue one goal - to get to the bottom of the truth and to a certain extent rehabilitate themselves in the eyes of citizens, because we, too, served in those days when the telephone law closed many industries. Maybe that's why soy colleagues work with readiness, creativity and decisiveness, which is sometimes ashamed of their actions in the past. However, let's not condemn people unfoundedly - we were not alone in driving the marriage and the plan. And then, personally, I went through a lot because of my adherence to principles. However, the old days raged off and a quiet old age was not entirely desired. That is why the group I created is one of the most active in social networks and many who saw it or even belong to it have no idea what it really does. With the large participation of many people, it contains the backbone of the battlefield of about 3,000 operas from 100 countries of the world, engaged in the search for crimes of the past.
I must say that you don't have to get bored, and the writing fraternity is clearly not enough, but we do not want to give our labors to the women of the magazine. Have seen enough of them during your professional career. In any case, in our person, you are dealing with a private detective agency that undertakes any investigation of crimes of the past. Our desire is to tell about the true epic of the world and remove the science-mythology, called "Is Torah Ya" from scientific shelves.
That is why today we will talk about Death. Let's start with the fact that Orthodoxy simply does not have such a heroine. For the first time, death as a lady with a scythe appears in the works of Dürer. It is in this form that she begins her journey across the planet Earth and the religions represented on it. This lady is a purely Western idea of the moment of her last breath, in fact, not Death, but according to the plan of the engraver, the Plague, which then struck Europe. It's just that it was forgotten and today's connoisseurs of Gustav's works take at face value something that never existed.
However, in this work, we are not talking about the plague and not about death in general. Here the author, on the basis of documents presented by my colleagues in the OSG, will tell about the strangest and mystical death of N. V. Gogol. It's time to debunk this myth, about how he was buried alive and about who made money on this myth. Anticipating questions from readers, I want to remind you of a song about who is to blame for the lack of water in the tap. It is on this note that we begin our story.
The work of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol (1808-1852) has long been recognized as a classic, and in the opinion of his descendants he has long been rooted as the greatest Russian writer.
But there is no unanimity when it comes to assessing him as a person. In the memoirs of his contemporaries, he is often characterized as a secretive, mysterious, crafty person, prone to hoaxes and deceptions. And this was said not only by enemies or casual acquaintances, but even true admirers of his talent, friends who more than once helped the writer out in life's difficulties. When one day Gogol asked Pletnev to openly express his opinion of him as a person, this oldest and obliging friend of his wrote: "A secretive, selfish, arrogant, distrustful creature who sacrifices everything for glory …"
It was not difficult for us to verify this statement. As it turned out, this is pure fiction, which is now being spoken about even from high government stands. Introduced to the public, Gogol was never a poor writer; he lived in a very decent house on Nikitsky Boulevard in the center of Moscow (not St. Petersburg) owned by Count Alexander Petrovich Tolstoy, who had been a close friend of the writer since the late 1830s. Living conditions were like a kind of communism - a dream that Soviet citizens failed to achieve. Here is what contemporaries remember about Gogol's life in Moscow with the Tolstoy:
“Here, Gogol was looked after like a child,” recalled one contemporary. “He did not care about anything. Lunch, breakfast, tea, supper were served wherever he ordered. His linen was washed and put into chests of drawers with invisible spirits … In addition to the numerous servants at home, he was served in his rooms by his own man from Little Russia by the name of Semyon, a very young guy, meek and extremely devoted to his master. The silence in the wing was extraordinary. Gogol either walked around the room from corner to corner, or sat and wrote, rolling balls of white bread, about which he told his friends that they helped solve the most difficult and difficult problems.
However, a strange poverty was observed during the last 4 years of Nikolai Vasilyevich's life! I wonder who needed to plunge him into a beggarly state and create a halo of a sufferer around him?
Puzzled by these questions, my colleagues decided to turn to police production, which is quite accessible and for any gogolologist is of a certain value in establishing the truth.
I must say that the Russian police were not fools, in any case they were more literate than their modern followers. We were faced with the scrupulous work of two police agents in charge of the case of the death of the writer and a serious check by the prosecutor's office. At first glance, it is clear that the professionals of the investigation were working, since the case was investigated not about the death, but about the murder of the writer.
Yes, reader, Gogol died of a terrible poisoning, and of such force that he never woke up in a coffin in a lethargic sleep, due to an overdose of drugs. The case was about the involuntary murder of a writer by doctors.
However, everything is in order.
Here is an excerpt from the document of the examination of the patient N. V. Gogol. Dr. Tarasenkov: “… the pulse was weakened, the tongue was clean, but dry; the skin had a natural warmth. For all reasons, it was clear that he did not have a fever … once he had a slight bleeding from the nose, complained that his hands were chilly, his urine was thick, dark-colored …”.
There is also a conclusion of a toxicologist doctor and the symptoms of Gogol's disease described by him are practically indistinguishable from the symptoms of chronic mercury poisoning - the main component of the same calomel that three successively changing doctors treated the writer: Inozemtsev, who diagnosed typhoid fever, Tarasenkov, who diagnosed meningitis, and Klimenkov, who believed that Gogol insane.
It should be noted that three doctors, who also got sick in turn, did not consult with each other and each prescribed calomel in huge doses.
In general, treatment with mercury was stopped quite recently. Since the time of medieval alchemists, not only great writers, but also kings have been killed with mercury.
In fact, in chronic poisoning with calomel, thick dark urine and various kinds of bleeding are possible, more often stomach, but sometimes nasal. A weak pulse could be the result of both the weakening of the body from polishing, and the result of the action of calomel. Many noted that throughout his illness, Gogol often asked for a drink: thirst is one of the characteristics of the signs of chronic poisoning.
Back on February 5, Gogol complained to a friend of severe stomach upset after the funeral of Khomyakova, a married woman whom he liked very much, who died of typhus. It was then that the fashionable doctor Inozemtsev was summoned (by pull), who decided that Gogol had typhus. He then prescribed a loading dose of calomel, then fell ill himself and stopped observing the patient. Tarasenkov began to work on Gogol, who in turn prescribed calomel, not knowing about the dose taken by the patient. As you know, Tarasenkov is a doctor cooperating with the police and he was forced to leave on the affairs of this department in Samara. Then Gogol passed into the hands of Klimenkov, a young graduate of a medical university, who increased the acceptance of calomel almost 4 times, hurrying to defeat the disease.
An overdose arose in the body and the medicine turned into a poisonous mercuric chloride - mercury poison.
He then became the cause of the death of the great writer.
As you can see, there is nothing mysterious about Gogol's death until the Jews tackled it.
It should be noted that before the revolution, the death of the writer had no mystical meaning. The criminal process in the case was open and only Klimenkov was injured, who received a short sentence and was deprived of medical practice. Inozemtsev rested in Bose, having poisoned himself with this drug, and the police doctor managed to get out.
In addition to these three konovals, a certain doctor Alfonsky (psychiatrist) appears in the case, who invited the poisoned magnetiser, Dr. Skoropadsky, a well-known psychic at that time, later exposed as a charlatan. These were not treated, Nikolai Vasilyevich simply sent them further.
Klimenkov's treatment is striking.
Klimenkov insisted on active treatment: bloodletting, wrapping in wet cold sheets, etc. But Tarasenkov suggested postponing everything to the next day.
On February 20, a council gathered: Over, Klimenkov, Sokologorsky, Tarasenkov and the Moscow medical luminary Evenius. In the presence of Tolstoy, Khomyakov and other Gogol acquaintances, Over told Evenius the history of the disease, emphasizing the oddities in the patient's behavior, allegedly indicating that "his consciousness is not in a natural position." "Leave the patient without benefits or treat him like a person who does not control himself?" Over asked. “Yes, you have to force-feed him,” Evenius said importantly.
After that, the doctors went to the patient, began to question him, examine him, and touch him. From the room came the groans and cries of the patient. "Don't bother me, for God's sake!" he finally cried out. But they no longer paid attention to him. It was decided to put two leeches to Gogol's nose, to make a cold douche of his head in a warm bath. Klimenkov undertook to perform all these procedures, and Tarasenkov hastened to leave, "so as not to witness the suffering of the sufferer."
When he returned three hours later, Gogol was already taken out of the bath, six leeches hung at his nostrils, which he tried to tear off, but the doctors forcibly held his hands. At about seven in the evening, Over and Klimenkov arrived again, ordered to maintain the bleeding as long as possible, put mustard plasters on the limbs, a fly on the back of the head, ice on the head and inside a decoction of marshmallow root with laurel-cherry water. “Their appeal was inexorable,” Tarasenkov recalled, “they gave orders like a madman, shouted in front of him, as in front of a corpse. Klimenkov pestered him, crumpled, turned, poured some caustic alcohol on his head …"
After their departure, Tarasenkov stayed until midnight. The patient's pulse dropped, breathing became intermittent. He could no longer turn himself, lay still and calm when he was not being treated. He asked for a drink. By the evening he began to lose his memory, muttered indistinctly: “Come on, come on! Well, what then? " At eleven o'clock he suddenly shouted loudly: "Ladder, hurry up, let's get the ladder!" I tried to get up. They lifted him out of bed, put him on a chair. But he was already so weak that his head did not hold and fell, like that of a newborn child. After this outbreak, Gogol fell into a deep faint, around midnight his legs began to feel cold, and Tarasenkov ordered to put jugs of hot water on them …
Tarasenkov left so that, as he wrote, not to run into the medical executioner Klimenkov, who, as they later said, tortured the dying Gogol all night long, giving him calomel, covering his body with hot bread, which made Gogol moan and shriek. He died without regaining consciousness at 8 am on Thursday 21 February. When at ten o'clock in the morning Tarasenkov arrived at Nikitsky Boulevard, the deceased was already lying on the table, dressed in the frock coat in which he usually went. A memorial service was served over him, a plaster mask was removed from his face.
That's the whole hoax described in the police report. As you can see, neither Viy nor the dead lady was there. Moreover, 3 days before his death, Gogol was still awake and there was no overdose. A number of witnesses from the servants speak about this, claiming that he spent a long time in the toilet using enemas.
We asked the doctors and they said that the writer thus cleared himself of mercuric chloride in the stomach. This is a normal medical practice called a cleansing enema. Witnesses say that Gogol felt better and even corrected poetry to a servant written for his mother's birthday.
But, charlatan doctors joined the case and the writer was doomed. They simply did not listen to him, considering him crazy. And the reason for this opinion was that Gogol burned the second volume of Dead Souls, having learned that the entire fee for him, which he had hoped for, would go to pay for the treatment. After all, they invited the most famous Moscow luminaries of medicine, the most fashionable, the most famous, and therefore the most expensive. So they looked at the manuscript, and Nikolai Vasilyevich, driven to the extreme by them, became cowardly. And then they took it seriously, trying to shake out the unaffordable money.
Of course, one can judge in different ways about such an act of Gogol, but the author knows a case when a WWII veteran simply burned down his house, which he had been building for almost 20 years, but which was taken from him by enterprising businessmen of our time, entangling the old man with debts. This was perhaps the hardest thing in my life when an innocent person was sent to jail for a long time. Reader, now he will turn away from the author with disgust and think of me with contempt. Not worth it! I just pulled my grandfather out of prison a year later, where the criminals in robes had taken the veteran. And I do not consider this a great feat, although I have been presented with an award for this, which no government can take away from me - two stab wounds in the back. And this is not the main thing, I have experienced not only injuries, but also the betrayal of those whom I trusted and who covered my back.
Released, the veteran lived for six months and died in terrible anguish, in an orphanage. But here I live and try to reach out to the heart of the reader. The criminals have not been punished to this day, moreover, they are respected members of society, deputies and generally live well. But I, I cannot forgive myself for not being able to protect the old man, and maybe that is why I raised the detective veterans to fight injustice, giving them the opportunity to convey to the world all the baseness of our other brothers in appearance, tearing the fates of people in pursuit of profit. At least, by the example of the pseudo-science "Is Torah Ya".
Gogol's ashes were buried at noon on February 24, 1852 by the parish priest Alexei Sokolov and deacon John Pushkin. And 79 years later, he was secretly, thieves removed from the grave: the Danilov Monastery was transformed into a colony for juvenile criminals, in connection with which his necropolis was subject to liquidation. It was decided to move only a few of the most dear to the Russian heart burials to the old cemetery of the Novodevichy Convent. Among these lucky ones, along with the Yazykovs, Aksakovs and Khomyakovs, was Gogol.
Well, I think that the reason for the death of Nikolai Vasilyevich is extremely clear to the reader?
Sorry for the detailed description of it, but it's time to debunk this myth and finally find out who was the author of the mystification of the writer's death.
Now readers practically do not know the name of the proletarian writer V. Lidin, who died in 1979 in full honor and respect. He taught at the Leningrad Literary Institute for about 30 years. The real name is Gomberg, a native of Jewish merchants. His generally good stories were in demand at the beginning of the revolution and up to the 30s. He was published a lot, but at the beginning of the 30s the crisis of the genre came and he abruptly changed his direction, becoming a falsifier writer. The reader should not be intimidated by such a name in the literature. Falsifications are unscientific fiction, such as words attributed to great politicians. The author of the miniature himself had previously written detective stories in which he put such thoughts into the words of Stalin, Roosevelt, Churchill that the reader simply forgot that he was in the hands of a fiction and a detective story. It doesn't surprise you that the scout Stirlitz is an invented face? But our grandchildren, they already consider it real. Or Major Vikhr, or Pavka Korchagin, or Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (Ulyanov)? All these are literary heroes who received real life from the pen of the authors of the falsifiers. For example, Lenin appeared in John Reed's book! 0 Days That Shook the World. This is a purely literary hero who combines 3 images of people who actually lived. We have such a miniature "With things on the way out" telling about this falsification and about who actually lies in the mausoleum.
However, I digress. So Lidin changed his genre and took up hoaxes. The glory of Gogol haunted him, and acquaintances claimed that the late writer was his nightmare.
Needless to say, when a commission of proletarian writers was created to transfer graves from the Danilov Monastery to the Novodevichy cemetery, Gomberg-Lidin was a member of it.
On May 31, 1931, twenty to thirty people gathered at the grave of Gogol, among whom were: the historian M. Baranovskaya, the writers Vs. Ivanov, V. Lugovskoy, Yu. Olesha, M. Svetlov, V. Lidin and others. It was Lidin who became almost the only source of information about Gogol's reburial. With his light hand, terrible legends about Gogol began to walk around Moscow.
“The coffin was not found right away,” he told the students of the Literary Institute, “for some reason it was not where they were digging, but somewhat at a distance, to the side. And when it was taken out of the ground - filled with lime, seemingly strong, from oak planks - and opened, then bewilderment was added to the heartfelt trembling of those present. In the coffin lay a skeleton with a skull turned to one side. Nobody found an explanation for this. Someone superstitious, probably, then thought: "Well, after all, the tax collector - as if not alive during his life, and not dead after death, is this strange great man."
It was Lidin who published the old rumors that Gogol was afraid of being buried alive in a state of lethargic sleep and seven years before his death he bequeathed: “My body should not be buried until there are obvious signs of decomposition. I mention this because even during the illness itself they found moments of vital numbness on me, my heart and pulse stopped beating. What the exhumators saw in 1931 seemed to indicate that Gogol's behest was not fulfilled, that he was buried in a lethargic state, he woke up in a coffin and experienced nightmarish moments of a new dying.
Such publications attracted the attention of the public, greedy for sensations, but alienated the specialists. However, Gomberg achieved the main thing - the glory returned and the money flowed like a river. Quite unexpectedly for himself, he became one of the main gogolologists in the USSR and many scientists listen to his opinion as the opinion of a weighty specialist.
And then Ostap suffered! The public needs more and more new sensations.
For the sake of fairness, it must be said that the Lidin version did not inspire confidence. The sculptor N. Ramazanov, who took off Gogol's death mask, recalled: "I did not suddenly decide to take off the mask, but the prepared coffin … finally, the constantly arriving crowd of people who wanted to say goodbye to the dear dead made me and my old man, who pointed out the traces of destruction, to hurry …"
There was also an explanation for the turn of the skull: the side boards at the coffin were the first to rot, the cover lowers under the weight of the soil, presses on the dead man's head, and it turns on its side on the so-called "Atlantean vertebra".
This is written about in the case of the prosecutor's supervision, on the exhumation of Gogol and other writers. There was even a critical article in the Trud newspaper, which prevented the newly-made Gogol scholar from living well.
Then Lidin launched a new version. In his written memoirs about the exhumation, he told a new story, even more terrible and mysterious than his oral stories. “This is what Gogol's ashes were,” he wrote. “There was no skull in the coffin, and Gogol's remains began from the cervical vertebrae; the entire skeleton was enclosed in a well-preserved tobacco-colored frock coat … When and under what circumstances Gogol's skull disappeared remains a mystery. At the beginning of the opening of the grave at a shallow depth, much higher than the crypt with a walled-up coffin, a skull was discovered, but archaeologists recognized it as belonging to a young man."
All this was overgrown with new rumors, some of those who let them saw Gogol's skull at collectors, said that the story "The Nose" was autobiographical, because the skull was completely without a nose, and so on. Well, what was there to talk about in the land of the Soviets, if there was no sex in it, and Hitchhock lived overseas. About Pushkin and his poem "Ghoul"? The niche of hoaxes was supposed to be filled and bring golden rain to the one who settled in it.
And Lidin, inexhaustible on inventions, amazed the listeners with new sensational details: they say, when the writer's ashes were being transported from the Danilov Monastery to Novodevichy, some of those present at the reburial could not resist and took some relics for themselves. One seemed to have pulled off Gogol's rib, the other - the tibia, the third - the boot. Lidin himself even showed the guests a volume of the lifetime edition of Gogol's works, into the binding of which he made a piece of cloth that he had torn off from his coat that was lying in Gogol's coffin.
Many believed the professor …
However, the forger did not stop at Gogol. We have found another victim of his hoaxes. This is Mikhail Bulgakov. It is Gomberg who will create an aura of mysticism around the author himself and his wonderful novel The Master and Margarita.
The Aksakovs brought to Moscow from the Black Sea coast a stone resembling Golgotha - the hill on which Jesus Christ was crucified. This stone became the basis for the cross on the grave of Gogol. Next to him, a black stone in the form of a truncated pyramid with inscriptions on the edges was installed on the grave.
These stones and the cross the day before the opening of the Gogol burial were taken somewhere and sunk into oblivion. They have sunk for everyone, but not for Lidin. By the beginning of the 50s, mystical works appeared in literature and a forger could not allow their procession without his control (read the division of money). The most suitable candidate for the next falsification, Lidin chooses the deceased Bulgakov, whose wife is in dire need of funds. Mikhail Afanasyevich used drugs and the police knew this. Drugs have always required drugs that melt very quickly. Thus, Bulgakov's legacy was not very different from the legacy of the Master depicted by him (remember the key to the balcony in a psychiatric hospital stolen from a nanny?).
In the early 1950s, Mikhail Bulgakov's widow made a deal with Gomberg, according to which he became almost the only critic of Bulgakov. Everything that we now know about Mikhail Afanasyevich belongs to the pen of the literary genius Gomberg. Nowadays, few people know that in fact he represented not one, but two writers, that is, he was published under different names.
The deal consisted in the fact that the division of funds from publications with Bulgakov's widow was carried out under the control of a forger. For this, a plan was developed to hoax Bulgakov. The money ran through the necessary channels, another duck was launched into the people, and before us is the image of the great mystic of Soviet times M. A. Bulgakov. Anyone who has read his other works understands that he cannot be suspected of mysticism. And only with the appearance of "The Master and Margarita" does it acquire the halo known today.
And it all starts with a simple one: Gogol gave impetus to Bulgakov's hoax.
The writer's widow "accidentally" discovered Gogol's Golgotha stone in the cutters' shed and managed to install it on the grave of her husband, the creator of The Master and Margarita. Who do you think showed her this stone? That's right, children are Gomberg!
From that moment on, Gogol's dark glory spread to Bulgakov and began to acquire details that never existed. This is the genius of a swindler from literature, the assertion belongs that everyone who plays a role in the theater or cinema will certainly die. Statistics say the opposite - they live and how they live !!! I will not dwell on particulars.
We found a few more falsifications by this author. In our opinion, he is the creator of the mystical genre in the USSR, although he himself did not write anything in this style. As a writer, he is interesting and I recommend reading his quiet, like evenings near Moscow. But there are enough devils in a still pool.
Be that as it may, this man lived a well-fed life and did not particularly care about his daily bread. From an apartment on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, from a house where marshals and actors were his neighbors, after years he was taken to the Moscow cemetery, where he rested.
But to this day, a dead glow rises on the grave of this writer exactly at midnight, and he himself, leaving the grave, feasts on coffins, with Gogol and Bulgakov, drinking the blood of innocent babies on the fresh flesh of onlookers who accidentally wandered into the cemetery. By the way, pivant blood from the skulls of such gullible simpletons like you, reader. And he also pulls money out of your pocket, which you spend on the purchase of outright literary lies about the great writer. Look for a book about Gogol in your library. I am sure that "about Gogol", in your collection there will be another brochure, but "here Gogol himself" you do not have! Yes, and you read it at best at school, not to mention the young people, who are now satisfied with the adventures of the blacksmith Vakulu in a wonderful feature film. By the way, I recently watched the American version of Viy. The opinion is this: it's time to exhume NVG again, in order to check the proverb about a coup in a coffin from indignation.
I was always amazed at the resourcefulness of the Jewish people, but I could not even expect to imagine the metamorphosis of the transformation of the commander of the Red Army into a proletarian writer-communist, then into a meter of Soviet science, and then into a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and finally, into a hoaxer and falsifier. Live and learn. This is me about Lidin-Gomberg.
The main thing is that this person received state awards, precisely for falsification, academic degrees for mysticism, without having the slightest education. Expelled from the gymnasium, he did not study anywhere else and only death stopped his run for luck. Otherwise, we would have had an academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, without higher education and illiterate, as evidenced by his manuscripts not edited by a professional proofreader. I can imagine what he would have weaved if he lived in our days. However, now there are enough of their crooks, and the Soviet grip will not compete with the modern youth grip.
Be that as it may, but to a certain extent I like him. Fools need to be taught, but Ostap Bender has not yet been canceled.
In his will, Gogol shamed those who "would be attracted by some attention to rotting dust, which is no longer mine." But the windy descendants were not ashamed, they violated the writer's will, with unclean hands they began to stir up "rotting dust" for fun. They also did not respect his commandment not to put any monument on his grave.
This is the truth about the death and afterlife of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol. Everything else is from the evil one…. Gomberg! © Copyright: Commissioner Qatar, 2015
