I have been interested in this topic for a long time. It was inspired by, as you might guess, Hollywood films and TV shows. I even thought it was a sinful thing that this is a purely cinematic action - a feature of cinematography. However, later I was told that it really is. Moreover, at home they do not take off their shoes in England, Australia and some European countries.

No, well, it is simply impossible to imagine such a thing with us - it’s to take away dirt, dust, sand all over the apartment. And the Americans not only don’t change their shoes and don’t take off their shoes, but they are still in shoes on sofas and almost go to bed.

Why is that? Googled - not satisfied with the explanations. Well, see for yourself …

They usually write that, allegedly, Americans walk very little and mostly come home by taxi or car. And in the USA there is a cult of car washing and it is always clean. As a result, their shoes are not particularly dirty. Plus, there is an important argument - their streets are washed with almost shampoo and there is no special dirt on the sidewalks.

A well thought-out design of roads, including pedestrian ones, is no less important. Artemy Lebedev has paid attention to this more than once - the level of coverage is always several centimeters higher than that of earthen / sandy or other roadsides, plus curbs / curbs are many times more common. On major highways, especially in the United States, drainage and sewerage systems are generally a work of engineering. Many pedestrian spaces, in varying degrees of abundance, are sprinkled with chips with an impregnation, which allows the chips not to get wet and always keep above the ground. It is equally important that harsh chemical reagents are practically not used - enough cubes of granite or other hardy stone, which are scattered on the roadway and footpaths. Often on the sides of the road you can see large fine-mesh gratings that lead to bunkers 5-7 meters deep, where cubes are swept away in spring and up to 95% of them are used for the next seasons. This, for example, is the case in many cities in the northern states of the United States, where the snow is no less than ours.

Another feature is the “low rise” of the USA, Great Britain and other mentioned countries, the presence of garages right in the house or a few meters from it. Public utilities are very closely following order on public territory, and on their plots of land - its owners. The paths to the house and the paths along your own lawn are better thought out than many transport interchanges, and this allows you to get out of the car and walk to the house even in slippers.

Come on! Well, "what is it about"? “No layer of dirt” and “not dirty” are not two different things!

No matter how you drive in cars and walk on clean sidewalks, the shoes will still be dusty, there will be sand and debris on the soles. If several people in such shoes walk around the apartment, it will be impossible to walk at home without shoes at all. Those. before going to bed, will you have to take off your shoes right in front of the bed without stepping on the floor with your bare foot?

And the dust flying from all this in the air does not bother anyone? Maybe I don’t know something and they wash the floors every night? Then you can at least somehow imagine all this.

And the rain? After the rain, do they also keep their shoes on? But you never know what kind of dew or the wind has caused the earth, sand - all this will be on the soles and then in your apartment it is as if the sidewalks were not washed with shampoo and the paths from the house to the garage were not thought out.

Of course, it is argued that the practical British, Australians and New Zealanders are especially very attentive to flooring in houses. Carpets, and even a replaceable carpet on the ground floor, are not often found in houses, and if they are found, then they are usually square or rectangular parts that can be easily replaced if they get dirty. Yes, you can find light-colored coatings in houses, however, they are most often easily removable and replaceable. The presence of large storage rooms and equipped basements, which can accommodate almost any washing technique and chemicals, spare carpet panels and whole spare carpets are not less important:).

Well, I don’t know, I’m saying, if you wash the floors every night or change the carpet every other day, that’s still understandable, but it’s not happening? And to live with a carpet on which a certain amount of shoes from the street have already been wiped off - well, I don't know … An apartment is not a hotel room. Here children of all ages can crawl on the floor. And right there next to everyone they eat and sleep in general. How is it on the street?

Tell me how it actually happens? Or maybe I'm missing something important?

How else do you like “feet on the table”?
