Mexico City (Spanish: Ciudad de México) is a federal district (Spanish: Distrito Federal) and the capital of Mexico, one of the most important financial centers in North America. Population (2010) 8, 85 million people, population of the Mexico City metropolitan area - 21, 2 million. Named in honor of the Aztec god of war Mehitli.

Mexico City is the most populous city in the Western Hemisphere, with the outskirts of which continue to expand in breadth. Now, according to official data alone, more than 20 million people live there, and the population density is 25.4 thousand people per square mile, or 9.8 thousand people per square kilometer, which is twice the density of Moscow's population.

The continuous growth of the population and the influx of new residents into the capital contributes to the fact that the city grows without noticing obstacles in the form of mountains and hills, covering the area with an equally even layer of houses. At the same time, the construction of infrastructure facilities lags far behind the number of new houses.

The ecology in the metropolis leaves much to be desired and often the city is covered with poisonous smog and fog.
