In a number of regions of Russia and Ukraine, legends are still circulating about soldiers who were distinguished by special martial art and superhuman abilities. Such warriors were called kharaternik Cossacks; they were the military elite of the Zaporozhye Sich. It was believed that the kharaterniks were the heirs of the ancient Vedic knowledge of the Magi, who were severely persecuted after the adoption of Christianity in Russia. According to the legends, neither fire, nor water, nor saber, nor arrow took the kharacterniki.

However, the Cossacks were vulnerable to the silver bullets. The hetman of the Zaporizhzhya Army Ivan Zolotarenko, whom the Poles suspected of characterism, was killed in 1655 in the town of Stary Bykhov with a shot from a gun from the bell tower. His killer, the Catholic organist Tomasz, admitted that in order to commit the atrocity, Catholic priests gave him a bullet from a sacred bowl, which was also conspired to do the same.

The bullet that was taken out of the hetman's body was indeed unusual: with a silver center, inscribed in Latin letters. The body of the deceased hetman Zolotarenko was taken to his hometown of Korsun to be buried in a wooden church, which was built at his expense. Immediately after the beginning of the ceremony, in the presence of many residents and clergy, lightning hit the church, a fire started, and the hetman's body burned down along with the church.

As V. Pilate believes, after the baptism of Rus, the persecuted Magi began to unite in secret societies, creating Sichs far from large cities. They founded schools of combat hardening and training on the Dnieper islands, the shores of the Bug and Dniester, in the Carpathians and the forests of Ukraine (Rus). In these schools, the path of the warrior went to the heights of perfection, relying on his native faith, age-old customs and rituals.

Cossacks-kharacterniki legends are credited with the ability to create beyond the usual human capabilities, for example, "direct manna" to opponents, forcing them to see what is not in reality. The history of the confrontation between the Cossacks and the Poles knows more than one case when the Cossacks-kharacterniki, fleeing the pursuit of the Poles, put spears in a circle in the middle of the field and enter a special state, directing the very "manna": the Poles, instead of the Cossacks, see an oak grove in the middle of the field and pass past.

This technique was used by kharaternik Cossacks when it was necessary to protect themselves on vacation. When approaching, the enemy took the Cossack camp for thickets of reeds.

There are legends that the Cossacks-characterists * mastered the skill of making the so-called "shouts": they took reeds, dipped them in water and wax, then shouted at them. In some mysterious way, the wax imprinted the scream. After that, such reeds were scattered across the steppe. If an enemy horse steps on them, a shout will be heard - thus the Cossack sentry was warned of the approach of the enemy. There is information about the ability of the Cossacks to penetrate unnoticed into the enemy camp. So, the Cossack characterist Ivan Bohun, according to the legend, led his army through the Polish camp at night so imperceptibly that not a single dog barked …

A short film about the Zaporizhzhya Sich:

Khortytsya is the largest river island in the world - a natural fortress, protected from all sides by high rocky shores. Here was a pagan sanctuary, here the legendary prince Svyatoslav fell in battle.

The main legend of Khortitsa is the Zaporozhye Sich. It was founded in 1553 by the Volyn prince Baida-Vishnevetsky. It was a military organization, a Cossack "republic". The film tells about the martial art and the rules of life of the Sich Partnership.
