Communism in the countryside began in the 80s of the last century exactly according to all the patterns of the founders of this ideology - after a stubborn class struggle. Then the locals and farm laborers rebelled against the aristocrats who owned the lands around the village, and occupied their estates. Class battles then moved to the court - the peasants demanded to divide the land of the feudal lords. Ultimately, the Andalusian government decided to transfer 1250 hectares of agricultural land to the community, which took shape as a cooperative.
“All important decisions are made at the general meeting of the community members,” says Gordillo. The community pays for work in the field to people 47 euros for 6 hours of labor. The rest of the proceeds from the sale of products goes to the general budget of the commune, which is then distributed for social needs, the improvement of the village and social assistance. Thanks to this, an impressive park has been laid out in the village of 3,000 people, green zones have been created, a modern sports center has been built, schools have been renovated (which the community also maintains), and hundreds of residential buildings have been built. Local grocery stores can be purchased at discounted prices.
“Each member of our community knows where the money is spent, all reporting is completely open to them,” Juan Gordillo continues. According to him, the commune managed to get rid of the curse of the modern capitalist world - mortgage bondage. In total, the community has already built more than 350 residential buildings on its own. A community member living in such a house pays the cooperative only about 15 euros a month for it. At the same time, the maturity period is spread over 70 years - that is, the value of the house is set at 12,600 euros.
“In principle, money plays a secondary role for life in our village,” says the mayor of Marinelada. By the way, Gordillo is the only official in the community whom she fully supports. At the same time, he has neither a personal nor a personal car. To leave the community, he uses public transport - bus and rail. Sometimes someone throws it up.
- What's the problem? I packed my suitcase and went, - Gordillo is surprised. He is at work every day, and every day he meets and receives the residents of the community. Gordillo is a communist and encourages community members to actively vote for representatives of the Communist Party in elections to the regional parliament.
True, despite the communist mayor, there is also opposition in Marinelada. It is led by Ipolito Aires, a Socialist Party supporter and member of the community council, who with his headquarters colleagues chose the local bar. His main rebuke to Gordillo is that the mayor of Marinelada is a liar.
- When Gordillo says that we have no unemployment, he shamelessly lies. Imagine, we have about 10% of the unemployed! - Aires is indignant. True, he does not disclose the sources of these figures. Another point for criticism is the commune's receipt of subsidies for growing agricultural products from the state. In his opinion, this is a form of suppression of the working peasantry.
“In Spain, feudalism was and remained, despite the socialist government,” retorts Gordillo. - The richest latifundist in our country - the Duchess of Alba, for example, does not hesitate to receive such subsidies from the state, and then leaves the crops to rot in the fields! But we collect and implement everything.
Gordillo hints at the fact that until now, in Andalusia and other provinces of Spain, most of the agricultural land belongs to feudal lords, who are recipients of all kinds of subsidies from both the regional government and the country, and from the European Union. At the same time, the class struggle of the Spanish proletariat for their rights does not stop: farm laborers and peasants continue to rebel against the latifundists. So, on March 4, the police and the National Guard had to dislodge the rioters from the aristocratic estate they had seized in the province of Cordoba, and on April 26, the police dispersed an impromptu Protestant camp there.
