Remembering my youth and comparing myself today with that teenager - a product of the 90s, I involuntarily come to the conclusion that life gave me everything I wanted then and even more. The understanding that benefits reflect only social status, and not personality traits, has come over the years. For us, children of the 90s, the only dream was to get out of poverty, to get out of this “terrible” country as soon as possible, where everyone - parents, teachers, the state - constantly “demands” and does not give anything in return.

Yes, perhaps this is not patriotic, but the most disgusting memories of the USSR during perestroika and Russia at the end of the 20th century remain: hypocrisy, poverty, broken roads and dirt. Not a country, but a continuous market day in a provincial town.

Almost 20 years have passed since then, and now I am not a high school student, but a teacher in one of the colleges. My students are boys and girls from 15 to 25 years old. What distinguishes them, our future (that is what they called us, yesterday's schoolchildren, teachers in the first year of the university), differs from the generation of millennials?

Let's start with the good. Young people today do not have such monstrous social differences as our generation. Almost everyone has the necessary equipment for classes - a computer, gadgets, many families have cars, and some have several apartments. This situation completely excludes any complexes about your low property status and allows you to feel equal among equals; theoretically gives complete freedom of expression. So far, this is the only positive phenomenon after 20 years. Only do young people understand this?

Now about the current state of affairs.

When we entered a university or college, we understood perfectly well what a profession is for - for financial independence, as it seemed then. To serve people, as life has shown. A modern student goes to study for the sake of a diploma, not thinking about the future at all. Education is perceived as a respite from the army, as a life status, if you like, fashion, but not in any way the realization of one's vocation or an opportunity to bring good to people.

The modern young man is intellectually lazy. My peers at the end of the 20th century read a lot, someone under the pressure of the school curriculum, someone on their own. And the teachers did not have any questions with the understanding and presentation of the text by the student. Now, literature couples are just a punishment for students. Happiness for the teacher, if some people independently master several chapters, while the rest immediately look on the Internet with a summary of the work. There are no less problems with the presentation of the content - students are not able to build complex sentences, they confuse, object and subject, cause and effect. Young people have forgotten how to think independently and prefers to receive ready-made, previously created information. By whom, when and for what purpose it was created - this is not a question for them. The readiness to consume any information that increases the status of an individual (mind you, not a person, it has not yet been formed) becomes the most urgent. Several social media accounts, quotes from famous people cut out of context, hundreds of photos posted on Instagram, Facebook and contact, suggest that young people are literally enjoying their selves.

But here's the paradox: the brighter a student strives to stand out, the more superficial his knowledge and social skills are. It is these guys - the "stars" of the Internet and the leaders of the crowd - who turn out to be the most unadapted to study and real life. Their intoxication with their own "achievements" leads to pride and makes them prime candidates for retakes and dismissals. As practice shows, it is these guys who have problem families and, as a result, have problems with socialization and the law.

Speaking of families. When I lectured on family and marriage, some of the female students cried. The situation in the country is monstrous - most of the families are either incomplete or remarried. Of course, even in the latter case, the child experiences the shock of the parental breakup. This generates a loyal attitude towards homosexuality, especially among girls. According to my observations, a typical portrait of a girl loyal to homosexual relationships is as follows: an incomplete family or a family with remarriage, bad relations with a father or stepfather, an awareness of her inferiority and, as a result, an attempt to compensate for this with the help of expressive, and maybe socially dangerous behavior oriented over-attracting attention. The extreme stage of such a deviation is a loyal attitude towards suicide, expressed in the laughter culture of adolescents. Only by solving the problem of incomplete families and giving the growing generations unconditional love, we will get worthy, socialized individuals, and not loud, narcissistic egocentrics. I want to assure readers that not everything is so bad: there are still worthy young people, but they make up about a third of the total mass of students.

So let's summarize. Modern youth are much better off than our generation, but they are prone to self-centeredness, do not understand the role of the individual in society, are dependent on technology, do not want to learn and think for themselves, have difficult relationships with parents, relatives and teachers. The absence of a single ideological base in the country, the presence of many sources of information, the cult of the golden calf lead to complete chaos in the head of a non-socialized person. The political and other sympathies of young people are based on three pillars: is it profitable? is it fashionable? will it improve my status? As a result - an extreme form of dependence on the assessment of others, concern about their compliance with the standards of modern youth culture. Needless to say, individuals who are highly motivated to study and work usually have a strong rear in the form of a good family and realize themselves through creativity?

So what is our future ?!
