The great Wall of China. Photo Comparison

At the mention of the Great Wall of China (WKS), such modern photographs pop up in my head, which appear in any search engine for this request:

The wall runs along the tops of the ridges, which are covered with thickets of trees and bushes

But it is worth mentioning that there are a great many of these walls, which were built, were completed supposedly by different dynasties of emperors:

In the desert western regions of China, the VKS is a pitiful sight. Many readers already know about these facts.

But I was most interested in the retro photographs of the VKS 1917-32:

Pay attention - there are no trees or bushes on the slopes of the mountains, there is not even grass.

Now it looks completely different.

Rare trees grow here. What happened to this area? Was the climate drier? Or this territory, like Siberia, was affected by a cataclysm, after which nature was recovering for a long time …
